Other than the rounding, what about the promos/offers locally?
DBS has the FAR thingy, DBS Indulge and Rewards. Which seems to be more 'wholesome' compared to Citi.

The rounding is done after consolidating all transactions in a single statement so it's not as bad.

Anyone faced any issue of temporaily increasing your credit limit before when using this card?

Over the weekend, I was a mere $70 short and attempted to increase my credit limit temporarily for another $100. To my shocking surprise, I was rejected this request. Which makes me very pissed off.

I have been using this as my only card and each and every transaction, I have been using this card. Since the start of this year, I have clocked more than 11,000 worth of DBS points.

I was so disappointed that I super feel like cancelling this card. And the frustrating thing is they are unable to give me a reason why my request was rejected.

Anyone face such issue before?

I had no problem permanently increasing credit limit from 20K to 60K. Just sent them my last year tax assessment and got SMS that credit was increased next day.

How about temporarily increasing the credit limit?

There has to be a reason for it. I know ones that get approved easily are hospital stays, weddings and overseas trips. Usually will need to furnish proof.

Generally, difficult to get it approved just because you are short. Either increase the limit through a credit review or just pay off a small amount first to clear up your limit. Tbh, I've never asked for it either, but I can't imagine the bank granting it for no reason.

I can understand how bank won't grant without reason.

However, let's assume it's hospital stay or even overseas trip where purchase of air ticket is required, to furnish proof at the point of sales might prove difficult. Unless they are talking about furnishing the proof only after transaction.

By law its not allowed. The credit limit is there to limit from overspending. Only in certain circumstances, like traveling, wedding, medical expenses, funeral and like, than will there be temp limit increase.

If you really want a limit increase, call and make out a story. Otherwise, they can't do that for you.

The bank gave you a limit of $X because it's either a requirement by law, or because the bank thinks that any higher than that there is a risk of you running into debt and not paying back. So, unless there is a good reason, why should the bank agree to even $X + 1?

For those, you need to furnish the proof before the transaction. Email/fax them a copy of wedding dinner contract, plane ticket, admission letter, etc.

I understand where you are coming at. But perhaps, they should be able to justify based on my records? My spending has always been above $3k per month, sometimes amounting to $10k, and none of those have I ever encounter late payment.

I see...so it is very much dependent on the reason on what I am spending, and not how much I am spending.

Oh well. If that applies to almost other banks other than DBS, guess I have to buy that story.

just log in using mobile banking and pay off S$100 and call them up to ask them update your credit limit immediately.....

btw, some cards did allow transactions to go through even if it is over your credit limit....

Yes, clowns indeed.

It's all about convenience in the first place and if it doesn't makes the credit card holder feel convenient, probably, they need to re-think their policy.

And yes, I know that UOB Card does allow transactions to go through. Now I'm re-considering whether to switch over to UOB Privi Miles Card.

Actually when u pay the $100 the credit limit actually goes to $100 (assuming u left $0) the very next day. (a little bit of timing required here)
U don even need to go thru the hassle of asking to increase your credit limit.

For banks such as Citi, UOB and OCBC, the available credit limit will increase immediately if payment is made online via debiting the current/savings account or through cash deposit to the card account via the Cash Deposit Machine.

I do not know what the situation is in Singapore but in States coming very close to the credit limit is very bad thing for one's credit history. Generic recommendation is not to have average daily balance exceed 70% of available credit line and better to have it less than 50%.

Any peculiarities about this in Singapore?

In Singapore, breaching the limit is a bad thing. That goes onto your record and may make applying for new cards or loans difficult.

Otherwise, you are welcome to use up to the limit itself and as long as you pay the entire balance when it is due, makes no difference to your record.
