Anyone tried the new bespoke/tailor service at Swagger and Finespun Clothiers yet?

Both are located at Ann Siang Hill.

An update on dylan & sons, my gf's first-shirt had been on-hold has been delayed for a few days, due to some so called " production delay". Hopefully she will be able to collect it, as promised by tomorrow evening.

Cotton linen blends are great. Would avoid wool rayon also to be honese.

Pure wool is perfect for this weather.

I think its better to pay for quality

i don't mind paying sightly more. But the thought of dry-cleaning them puts me off.

The use of a clothes brush, airing the clothes and the careful use of a steamer can avoid frequent visits to the dry cleaners. Jeeves is my officially approved dry cleaner.

as recommended by PetiaC, i went down Sze Sze Tailor to get a suit done.

here is the outcome.

pocket a bit too big for my liking

fantastic detailing, has my name embroidered on. love the inner lining :o

my first suit done, not sure what to expect, or what not to expect.
just felt that the padding on the shoulder might have been a bit overdone and the length of the sleeve on the suit may not be short enough

but a wonderful experience nonetheless

Yes but it is a bad idea in our weather. Used in flannel shirts.

For suiting or jacketing, you will find some wool/linen blend or wool/silk blend. Very occasionally would you come across wool/cotton/linen blend. My limited experience with suiting or jacketing is there isn't wool/cotton blend.

Just wanted to chime in:

- Any recs for business pants? I like Massimo Dutti suiting pants in super wool, but they go for 170-190 per pair so no way. Would prefer something weather-friendly. Budget would be around $100 per pair, preferably non-blends (but is that possible @ my budget?)

- TBH most of my current pants (4 pair rotation: 2 grey, 1 navy, 1 black) are all from topman. Poly-rayon-viscose blend but they have held up decently, have a decent slim but not skinny fit and are priced @ $70. So not bad for someone on fresh grad salary. Recently though all they sell is the ultra aggressive skinny fit, which looks childish and douchey.

- Also, I recently received my order of 5 extra-slim fit shirts from Charles Tyrwhitt. Would srs recommend Tyrwhitt for those on a budget, if you are of a athletic, muscular build like me (179cm, 78kg, 8-10% body fat :D ), since your body would be similar to the heavier caucasian bodies that these english shirts are cut for. I would maybe prefer the shoulders to be slightly slimmer, but i can live with it. Accquire bigger delts and traps? Haha.

And the price is nice, 125GBP for 5 shirts + the fabric is comparable to Lewin and certainly better than the mid-market Peninsula tailors. Tyrwhitt also emailed me that shipping is a flat rate of 15, so go crazy. Also bought 2 silk ties for 40, with decent fabric and the knot has a nice pop. So in total 180 shipped which equates to 350 SGD. Not too shabby.

- Also, what are thoughts on a sportscoat to keep warm in air con offices? I was thinking a wool/linen mid-grey birdseye or nailhead, maybe from Massimo Dutti or Zara when sales hit. I need to wear a tie for work so having a jacket around would make my outfit look more put together if I have adhoc meetings with company clients.

100 very hard budget for pure wool. Wool blend is around this price.

To achieve or avoid looking like a douche, please refer to One Direction, I was told.

wow! 125gbp for 5 shirts is a pretty sweet deal. and the 15gbp flat rate is really good too. Hows the fit of the shirts? I'm abit chubbier than you though, 172 and 78kg. What size did you go for? And hows the extra slim fit for you? There are charles tyrwhitt outlets in sg right?

I have quite a number of shirts that are a bit baggy around the armpit/top back area. its been pissing me off a lot lately particularly as most are newly tailored shirts from good tailors.

Ive already been to Clancys to alter it (my post is somewhere below) and took some other shirts to MTL, Michelle's Alteration and some other random shop i found in far east (Ivans was closed will try him as well).

Im waiting to collect some shirts but so far it seems that their solution to baggy armpit/top back area is to add side pleats at the top of the shirt (brown lines in image below). I find it quite ugly looking on plain shirts and to be honest it doesnt solve much of the problem. in fact it makes it somewhat worse with the armpit protruding more.

Does anyone know if the below is possible? (green arrow in image below)
Basically i want the yoke to be pulled up a bit. this will perfectly solve the issue.

Just thought of this today mentioned to one of the shops I used and they didnt get what i was saying.

thanks

Regarding Charles Tyrwhitt, thought they had a store in Singapore?

- I use winning tailors @ peninsula. Good rates, friendly uncle, near my school. But I have never done anything drastic, just length adjustments.
- Frankly the shirt looks like a lost cause. Shoulder adjustments are generally the hardest to perform, and usually ends in a lot of $ being wasted.

They fit similar to the last outfit pic in this thread. The one with the paisley lined jacket and dior homme belt.

Unfortunately, no Tyrwhitt outlets locally. But their e-commerce seems to have a good reputation.

Also, I went with 15.5 neck and 34 sleeves. I might need a few minor alterations but the fit is good out of the box. Neck was nice and tight but still gave me 2 fingers breathing space.

Thanks for the sobering-up. They look horrible.

Newbie to MTM shirt making and hope you more experienced members can share some information with me :)

How much did you guys pay for a 2 ply cotton shirt, and where did you buy it from? (Please indicate if mother of pearl buttons are included.)

Is Egyptian cotton also in 2 ply, or single ply? Why is it better than 2 ply cotton (does it feel cooler, etc?)

Thank you for your time.
