Hi. I'm controlling my impulse buying the Samsung Chromebook for $449.

I watch some reviews from Youtube. It seems like it is more wise to get a Android tablet but Chromebook is a full browser that it has no problem to load webpage.

Anyone bought it already? Is it a drunk move to buy it or go ahead and get it now??

Question is what do you intend to use it for? It basically runs Chrome browser, nothing else. All your apps will be launched from within the browser. For net surfing, it is more than sufficient.

I think it's not worth it. A regular laptop doesn't cost much more and you have more flexibility.

Of course, the benefit is that a Chromebook is thin and light and relatively simple to use if you are just looking for a web surfing tool. Also you have to make sure you have good wifi coverage wherever you are.

Chromebook is an online version of a netbook. Doing away with HDD and store everything online using Google Drive.

Email = Google Mail
Calendar = Google Calendar
Images = Picasa
MS Office = Google Docs

it is directed at a very niche market. good for people who are used to storing everything online. just need to use your mobile tethering to get internet access

I use Android phones and used to have Asus Transformer. So I'm using their tools regularly like Gmail, Calender and Google Drive. I'm just thinking it is useful to bring it overseas as it is light and long batt hours and its full browser. I only like to use desktop to do heavy tasks like photo editing, HD videos and games.

Chromebook only it has better browser, the rest are almost the same Asus Transformer with KB.

Dont buy from courts at $449.

Buy from Amazon (no free shipping though) instead. I got mine and it costs S$380 (inclusive of shipping)

But without warranty right?
For $69, I would not take this risk.

How about the power brick that comes with the Chromebook? U.S. only?

Actually I do agree that at 449 bucks, you are better off getting a tablet, or top up to get a full fledged laptop. I would recommend this closer to 350 to 380 bucks, if you need the keyboard and the mobility.

Powerbrick is rated 100-240v
Can use here. Just need an travel adapter as the USA plug uses a different pin config (can buy this from Homefix for 5bucks, no need expensive one)

RE: warranty, I lost faith in the Singapore warranty system... :s13:
Time to fix items damn long.... :s22:

PS: the total price is actually closer to S$360 =p
PSS: I am happy with my chromebook, although underutilised atm but I will be using it as a backup machine or when I stay overnight at JB. Somehow, I prefer a keyboard and mouse when surfing but i do agree that a tablet is the ultimate in portability (i own a Note8.0 which i use at work).

acer recently launched the V5-122 AMD win 8 touch laptop.

price $100+ more and full win8. more worth it to get this, or as some said, a transformer android tablet with keyboard.

For the price, yes. But this pc has low battery life and poor cpu performance. The same v5 Celeron version is faster and cost only $499. However no touch screen.

Acer also has the Chromebook version base of same foot print. Think is $399 or $349. Some say the BIOS can be modified to run Win8.

a lot of apps not available on chrome store

The Chromebook is pretty much a portable laptop for surfing net and doing some word processing. From my opinion, it is a good laptop to own for mobility and for the keyboard. But with Courts selling it at 449, I think its a major deal breaker since it is possible to get a Nexus 7 + keyboard combo around this price.

I do agree but chromebook can support website which android chrome can't.
