I'm staying in the east too and the most convenient way for me to enter JB is taking CW5 from Newton Circus. From home i ride my bike and park at Newton food centre and board the CW5 from there. The bus is not crowded to and fro unlike the ones at Bugis.

You mean you travel down to Newton and then up to JB via causeway? That's too long way to go, I used to go Queen's street and take Johor express. But not any more since bus 168 started. I take it at Tampines regional library. Travelling time, most time is about 40 min with occasional 50min due to heavy traffic on highway. I usually wait for the bus around 8.30am and by the time I clear JB custom, it is around 9.40am, sometimes 9.50am. Of course, this includes changing bus at Woodland interchange. Most time I take feeder service 911, 912 & 913 because the service is so frequent. Alight at the old Woodland interchange and walk all the way to CIQ (quite a distance walk). Recently I started trying 950, but have to wait, My last 950 ride, I waited 10min, which is about the time taken to walk into CIQ from old interchange. However, don't bother to take 950 during festive season, the bus get stuck in jam near to the old interchange (experience this during this CNY bargain hunt to JB).

I had even tried MRT once but was caught in the stuck train, with interrupted movement in the moring. However, an interesting thing happen that same day on the way back. I was with my colleague who took the MRT train back to Tenah Merah while I took bus 168 back to Tampines library. When I reached, I went to Tampines mall NTUC to window shop and SMS him about something on promotion. He was kind of "shock" that I was already shopping in the mall while he is still on the train about to reach Bedok station.

Any Holiday Plaza frequent visitor here?

Went there the other day, on the way to KSL, after many years of not stepping in. Is it me, or there's really nothing much there? Only crowd I encountered was at the basement handphone accessories booths.

Anyway, after coming back, realized that I didn't see any supermarket in Parkson. Or did I just missed it? :o

JB can only support so many shopping malls. The newer ones displace the older ones. Moreover Holiday Plaza never saw any facelift. It has been on the decline for years. I do not recall there was ever a supermarket at Parkson.

There used to be a Parkson supermarket in the basement, but that was many many years back. That's how long I've not been there until the other day.

very simple reason. pirated dvds lost their appeal.

in the olden days before there were fast internet or bittorrent, people had to rely on buying pirated DVDs.

but of recent years, people have resorted to downloading. and not only that, holiday plaza had a clean up. so there were fewer people willing to go there liao.

along the way, newer shopping malls sprung up and people are looking to shop more than just buying DVDs. if i were to ask where sinkies go now, i hear stuff like jusco tebrau or jusco bkt indah. seldom hear holiday plaza liao. it's just like singapore's bkt timah plaza, it was rather popular. nowadays, there are no tenants that appeals to the crowds anymore.

So, that's a shopping mall that may well become history one day.

Metro Jaya

Can anyone advise if the Metro Jaya is bigger in Pelangi Plaza or Danga Mall? :)

Have not gone to Pelangi Plaza and wondering if it's worth a visit, maybe on the way back from KSL.

Well, just because you or your kind does not go there, does not mean nobody else does. Plaza Angsana is geared towards the Malay shopper. Ask your Malay friends, if you have any.

while it's not v populated, but i doubt it will die.

look at angsana, don't think anybody goes therre either.

Angsana is a must go for any malay shopper. Cos the mall itself was designed for the malay shopper.
Baju kurung, home decor stuff dominates.they just renovated some more..

I just went to Angsana last Saturday (actually almost every year i go) to shop for raya clothings and it's true that Angsana is geared towards Malay shoppers. It's good to go during the Ramadhan month as there's alot of varieties ranging from food to clothings. Apart from that, there's nothing much really. And as for Danga city mall, even during the fasting month there's nothing much in there as compared to Angsana.

still there, wonder how those shops there survive? Anyway, I am going there tomorrow with my colleague to shop at UO store. Taking bus there, don't drive. Check through UO store website for the past days and more or less know what I want to buy. After that, go back to City Square to shop a little, Bata and Watson for some lady's stuff
