incorrect. pls see the actual list of criteria:

a. Have a bachelor's (or equivalent) degree or be in the final year of your bachelor's degree program at the time of registration*
b. or have four years of professional work experience (does not have to be investment related)
c. or have a combination of professional work and college experience that totals at least four years. Part-time positions do not qualify, and the four-year total must be accrued prior to enrollment.

Hi all,

Just a quick question, how much time(in hrs) do you take to go through one study session(as defined by the book) in CFA level one. Do let me know if you have prior knowledge to the text as well. Thank you!

Do you need to have a finance degree to complete all three levels of CFA exam?

You need to work in specific (allowed) areas in Finance for 4 years to gain the charter though (i.e. put CFA behind your name). For which areas are "allowed" please check the website for more info if interested.

Yea but you can lose your membership if they find out. Why work so hard for all 3 papers and risk it all?

so what is your advice for my situation??

may I ask why there is a pressing need to take the Dec paper and not the subsequent june paper instead?

i believe majority of members here will advise you to err on side of caution as ethics is super critical to CFA and this minor time lapse could cause you to be discharged from the program. so why take the risk?

Anyway, if you are not sure, why not email CFA to ask them about this. At least you will have their official black and white.

regarding study material, there are plenty out there. You can get study guides or past year text (content changes but not a lot) from others.

Cos in June 2015, I will have more deliverables for my bachelor 's fyp and other stuff whereas for Dec 2014 I will only have exams in sch to prepare for. I will definitely start preparing early for the paper no matter which date, that's y I will look for materials early also. Another reason is hopefully I can pass the l1 before I grad so that when I look for a job, hopefully it may make a diff. Edit: I am not intending to risk registering earlier than allowed if anybody is wondering.

Because when you registered, you will need to put in your degree data. A simple check from CFA side will sniff this out.

I think you can take the exam in year 3. And having CFA level 1 will make a difference (although many would say CFA is not a tool for job hunting, I disagree. Without CFA l2-3, how would you stand out from the thousands who have the same engineering/science degree)?

i think since your taking lvl 1 .. you can take the dec exam in the middle of your final yr..im not sure if you can take it in the June after you've completed your third yr exams but then again your heading into your final yr so it should be ok... best to email CFA institute and check though as some of the other bros have said here :)
