I think there's currently 3 versions of the G750, differing by GPU (765m, 770m, 780m) but singapore seems to have gotten the 770m version. Still it's an improvement from previous ROG notebooks which used 460m, 560m, 660m...

I've always wondered if that's the reason they can have such cool and quiet laptops, cos they pick the lower-end GPUs that dont have the same amount of heat as flagships...

Don't sweat over it 80+ temps is fine. A laptop will shut down when it reaches 105 temps.

Generally when hitting critical temps, laptops shld start throttling the CPU or GPU. Whichever is overheating. But the point of a high end laptop is not to encounter throttling from my point if view. After all, this is meant to be a performance laptop.

how is the cooling on aftershock? gs70 and asus have dual fans. I don't see any mention on cooling on aftershock websites.

Hmm, if you don't mind aesthetics, aftershock would be more of a bargain, dont really recommend Asus gaming series after accompanying my friend to their service center twice, just because of faulty usb 3

Just my 2 cents, dont get offended:o

adding an ssd to G750 voids the harddisk warranty :(
Don't have this problem with MSI GS70

I am still undecided. Any diff between the 2 display?

GS70: ssd x2 raid0, gtx765
G750: gtx770, better cooling? need to add ssd. (edited to correct the gpu)

That's the point, it really depends on what TS have in mind. For good thermals and performance, I highly recommend Asus. For mobility, then GS70.

If getting Asus, recommend spending the difference to get a faster 2.5 inch SSD to improve performance. As mentioned, the GPU in these 2 machines are probably fixed. So opting for either one means you will be stuck with it. Personally, I will go for better thermals = better performance, also with better graphics. Otherwise, you can consider Aftershock laptops, which I think has got the best value and performance + great after sales service. ;)

I doubt adding an SSD will void warranty. Can u confirm this? I am sure I did not see any warranty sticker at the base of the laptop, at least for the previous generation. MSI may have a warranty sticker on one of the screw to prevent anyone from tampering.

Just void the warranty of the hard disk. The rest of laptop warranty remains intact.
Confirmed with PC Dreams and also Harvey Norman staff.

This model shld have 2x hard drive bay if I am not mistaken. Can add another without removing the other. Even if there is only one, I usually remove the hard drive and keep it. If I need to send in for servicing, I will just install it back. If u don't format it, it shld run perfectly.

MSI uses 2 fans mah... and the CPU and GPU will throttle to cool down, the laptop won't shut down unless the cooling is faulty.

Not sure bout the fans on GS70 but on their GT series only 1 fan. It does have the turbo fan feature albeit very loud.

And you can remove the hdd yourself. There is a sticker there that voids warranty if you open it. There warranty is still valid even if you break the sticker or you can call corbell for peace of mind.

I have experienced no throttling on my msi gt60 with 680m overclocked to near gtx780m performance with vbios flash.. Temps at 85 although my alienware with 680m overclocked smoked it easily doesn't even hit 70 (2 fans on alienware vs 1 fan on msi)

Based on some reviews I've read, the prob is with the CPU rather than the GPU, on the MSI laptops. The GPU temps tend to be under control.

On the Alienware, due to the dedicated fan and heatsink, both CPU and GPU tend to stay cooler.

Yup correct its the cpu throttling lol not the gpu...you need to do some firmware flashing and vbios flashing on the gpu to get rid of it. thats getting a bit more technical though.

So in summary msi is more for ppl who wants performance out of the box and alienware is more like for people who likes to squeeze every inch of muscle out of it.

Asus i think need more creativity as in a gaming laptop. What they have implemented other laptops brands also have done it...they keep advertising on the cooling but even alienware is doing just as good as that or even better. If you combine all the features msi has packed into the GS70 in such a slim form factor, it seriously pose a threat to other laptop manufacturers esp the razer blade.

Both the Asus G750 and the MSI GS70, targets a different market. The former is more as a desktop replacement, while the other is trying to sell itself as a mobile gaming laptop. ;)

While I do agree that Asus has been too conservative with its flagship gaming laptop and have been using and reusing the same chassis design for quite a few generations now. Cooling is great, but it lacks any new features. With so many worthy competitors now, there is lesser reason to get from them.

Thats why the price is so low now haha. My G73 retailed for nearly 3k at comex in 2010. Now the G750 is like more than $500 cheaper... They had a nice lead with the G73 but stagnated since then, with the only major improvement being a more spaced out keyboard

I only know 765 and 770 never heard of 780 version

Thanks for the feedback guys. In the end I decided on the G750, with the addition of my old Crucial M4 SSD as OS hdd. :)

I'm a Asus G750 owner, its a good machine for $2198. The only thing it loses to GS70 is the Super raid, killer wifi and weight thats all. But with the price difference of the two machine, i'm sure you can add in some parts to compensate the CONS. Just my opinion =)
