let's just win swansea first :s13:
ok I got abit high after we have been 1st on table for 1week plus due to int duty.:s13:

But overall I got faith in Brendan that he would make sure we win.

I think the last 25 matches chart shows he's done well with moving us forwards since the turn of the year. Unbeaten in 12 games and only one loss in the last 17.

I wonder can we out pass them or not.

looking at how swansea performed in the first two seasons, they always have an issue with two types of teams:

1) Teams which are highly organised like Everton, Stoke, Aston Villa, Southampton

2) Offensive teams with a variety of attacking options like Manure, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, Norwich, Manciteh

If we take the recent Manure vs Swansea match, there are a few interesting stats:

ATTACK
- Swansea had slightly better possession: 53.7% vs 46.3%
- Manure made lesser total shots but they made more shots on target within the box, compared to Swansea which made more shots outside the box
- This inturn gave Manure a higher shot accuracy: 72.7% vs 27.3%

GENERAL PLAY
- Manure has won more duels and aerial duels.
- manure made more interceptions
- Manure tested their offside traps more often

DISTRIBUTION
- Manure made less passes: 471 vs Swansea 534
- Manure put in much higher successful crosses: 45.5% vs Swansea 27%

DEFENSE
- Manure made slightly less tackles but higher successes.
- Manure made more clearance

so the tactic is probably not "how to out pass them" but rather "how to stop them from passing".

A few ways:
1) Tight Defense
Swansea can have ALL the possession in the world but as long our players restrict 90% of their shots to outside the box, Swansea players will get frustrated

2) Timely Challenges, (especially 50-50, Duels and Aerial Duels)

3) Higher successive crosses and critical passes

4) Strongest Line-up possible
Swansea will be facing Valencia 3 day later on 19 Sept, so ML might rest a few key players for the Europa Match

5) Shift the creativity focus
If Coutinho starts, swansea players will try to lock him down. So BR will need to internally shift the creativity to Sturridge, Gerrard, Hendie and Aspas.

Liverpool FC hopeful over Daniel Sturridge - but Glen Johnson faces months out - Liverpool Echo

Liverpool FC are hopeful Daniel Sturridge will be passed fit for next week’s trip to Swansea City – but fears are growing over Glen Johnson ’s injury.

In-form Sturridge has been ruled out of England’s crucial World Cup qualifier with Ukraine tomorrow night as he recovers from a thigh strain picked up last week.

The 24-year-old – who has scored the match-winning goals in each of Liverpool’s three opening Premier League games – had been labelled as ‘touch and go’ for the clash in Kiev.

But after consulting the Reds’ medical staff at Melwood, England were forced to admit defeat in having the forward available for tomorrow’s Group H fixture.

Sturridge returned to Melwood on Tuesday after missing training with England and will remain with Liverpool for rehab having not travelled with the Three Lions.

England were desperately hoping the former Chelsea man would recover from the injury he aggravated in the 1-0 win over Manchester United eight days ago.

Danny Welbeck’s first-half yellow card means he is suspended for the Ukraine game and with Wayne Rooney also sidelined, manager Roy Hodgson’s options are limited.

Kirkby-born Rickie Lambert is expected to lead the line in the Olympic Stadium tomorrow night.

A Football Association statement read: “The FA can confirm that Daniel Sturridge will not return to the England squad ahead of the World Cup qualifier with Ukraine on Tuesday.

“Club England medical staff have been in constant contact with their counterparts at Liverpool Football Club since he returned there on Thursday, his injury has not progressed as had been hoped and it is now clear that Sturridge will not be fit for the match in Kiev on Tuesday evening.

“No additions will be made to Roy Hodgson’s squad of 23 players who travel to Ukraine on Sunday evening.”

Sturridge is hopeful of being ready to return to action for Liverpool’s game with Swansea a week today.

However, the news on right-back Johnson remains less positive.

The England defender limped off against Manchester United after suffering a high ankle sprain in the 1-0 win.

Liverpool were last week reluctant to put a timescale on his recovery but it is now believed Johnson could be ruled out for up to 10 weeks.

Should Johnson be sidelined for such a length of time then he will miss several games, including the Capital One Cup trip to Manchester United.

The extent of Johnson’s injury also means he is now a major doubt for the remainder of England’s World Cup qualifying campaign.

good and bad news...

Johnson is estimated to be out for at least 10 weeks... then adding the time he needs to get back to match fitness...
we are looking at 1/3 of the season >.<

I think we dont talk abt top 4 or title challenger first.

Maybe we can aim something else like:
1) Unbeatable at Anfield. Meaning 19 matches will be won or drawn here. (19 x 3 = 57points) (if not we win 80% at home which is 15 win 3 draws) = 48points
2) Don't lose more than 6 matches in a season. (last season we lost 9 matches in total)
3) Away matches we will be happy to settle at least 8 wins 5draws 6 lost) we will get 29points

total point is 86 if win all at home. total points is 77points if win 80% and no lost at anfield. with point 2 and 3 achieved.

If we target ourselves based on points, we will roughly knw whether we can challenge for title or for top 4. The 86points can challenge for title while 77points is usually top 2-4 position.

read somewhere b4 tht no champion ever lost more than 6 in premier league era ?

maybe BR could learn from guardiola....hire video analyst ? heard tht this is his key to winning....

I know Liverpool has hired a shrink to "hardened up" their mentality. Maybe that's why you see the performance on the pitch improving.

i think its important to gain as much points from below 10 teams over two legs. if can achieve 80%, that will be 48 pts.

then for top 10 teams, get at least 50% and if possible get max points from teams between 6th to 10th position and that would be 30pts. 48+30 = 78pts

ya heard thats the case if u want to be champion. We do not have BPL champion who lose more than 6 matches to win the title yet i suppose. Man Utd lose five last season. I think if we ended us lose 7 matches but win 31 matches. Then this will be different story but currently that is unlikely that we will have zero draw.=:p

Not gonna look so far ahead but it would be nice to see Stevie G lift the Premier League Trophy before he retires.

It would be the perfect way for him to play out the final years of his career and for the club to start a new era.

For now, all I do is hope.

me too... seeing stevie g lift the BPL is much much more than lifting the WC...

but let's take it one game at a time. hopefully our players dont get big headed and work their socks off everyday.

next one is to break down Swansea first team.

Not too much worry about Johnson unavailability, there are enough cover
for RB position. But the frontline really need Sturridge before Suarez return.
