Looking forward to the Nexus 5 as a potential replacement for my current Butterfly S.

Top 2 concerns are:

1. Screen display quality.
2. Compatibility of LTE/4G with local networks.

Why do you wanna replace it? Don't like to have a microSD card slot?

Main reason is unlike most, I kind of like the Nexus 5's design (I guess the Butterfly S looks ok, but I want something that is unassuming and black, like the Nexus 5), and I wish to try Stock Android for once, especially Kit Kat. :)

I do appreciate the availability of a microSD slot, but I think I can live without it.

Yeah, stock Android is always the best. No idea why all companies even spend a penny butchering around with the OS. Anyway, if the Nexus 5 comes only with 16GB max. like the Nexus 4 it's definitely limiting. I know the rumor says 32GB but who knows... Another thing I don't like about the Nexus devices are the non-removable batteries.

16GB is definitely not enough. I'd say that there will be a 32gb model at least. Non-removable batteries are ok with me, I've been living with them for my past 3 phones: Nokia Lumia 920, Sony Xperia Z, and Butterfly S heh.

31 Oct can't come soon enough! After that, still gotta brain-wreck to think of how to get it from overseas lol.

There will definitely be someone helping to bring in the N5.

90% chance that the N5 is going to be my next phone, after the disappointment with the Moto X.

Too bad about the LTE though.

Relax.....for sure there will be a variant suitable for EU LTE networks.

But for Starhub customers (that will stay on Starhub), they can just buy the US version immediately (most probably).

Was there a similar variant for the N4 too? How long did it take to be released after the original?

Apologies for the many questions, I've never gotten a Nexus device before. Hope to make N5 my first :)

N4 didn't even have LTE, so no need for variants. Look to the N7 2013 with LTE for why I say that.

Because unlike what most tech inclined people think, more people are impressed by added "features" compared to barebones Android.

And no, just because you prefer stock Android, it doesn't mean you automagically represent most of the people out there. Sad fact, I know. :(
