I use a homeplug initially and i didnt get the result i expected. In the end i invest in an ac-router and ac-adapter to achieve what i want.

Homeplug is a hit or miss thing i believe

If LAN cabling is really out of option, either the mess that will create (Clean up after the installation) or because it is some rented apartments etc, Wi-Fi is always a better option than Home Plug.

This is because while Wi-Fi is still not as good as Cat 6 cable, at least there are tools like inSSIDer 3 to find out what is causing the interference and manually set a better channel if needed.

For Home Plug, can one request to change a better 220V live wires just because of deteriorating copper wiring or because there are other high electricity consumption device is creating issues with it?

Not to mention that Home Plug will not work even decently on socket extensions.

However, it is still better than those Home Plugs that came with Wi-Fi, which is more like getting the worst of both worlds.

If VQ can add one more wishlist, that would be the Zhone router come with AC dual band function.

This is because to promote how the fiber's potential, the target must not only be networking experts or hardcore power users but also mainstream users.

There is no point in a price wage simply because VQ cannot have a triple play of Freedom VPN / VQTV + Internet + Mobile phones and any such price cutting will lead to degrade of services.

However, a better Wi-Fi than good / above average is really a plus point and can start with a dual band AC router which will be the case by the matter of time since not everybody can be on wired and some budget laptops comes with N Wi-Fi single band adapter + Fast Ethernet port. (So upgrade of USB Wi-Fi is much easier than use a LAN in such case)

Noted! Thanks for the feedback :)

Thanks for the reply Nic!
Is it free throughout or first three month only?
Also, when is the stock for the viewqwest TV coming?

OneVoice is included in the bundle price throughout the subscription :)

The shipment is on it's way so should be arriving soon!

Thinking of signing up since my place just got fiber ready. My fiber point is installed in my living room. Can I place the modem in my room which is beside the living? Anyone knows how thick is the cable?

Which cable are you talking about?

The cable that connects the ONT to TP or Cat5/5e/6 cable that connects from the router to Desktop / Laptop?

For the TP connection one, it is very thin one.

For the Cat6 cable supplied by VQ, it is rather thick.

Addon:

Do note that ViewQwest's ONT and router is the same device, Zhone 2426. Hence, that yellow cable must be long enough into your room.

How are you going to trunk along the wall might be a issue also.

Not necessarily true. Not all WiFi is the same and not all home plugs are the same. Before we moved into our own place I was living with my girlfriend's parents. Running Ethernet cable was not an option and due to placement of FTP and ONT, WiFi signal two walls away in the bedroom was poor even with my RT66 on 5GHz (all sorts of glass cabinets and mirrors and CRT televisions and sh*t in the way playing hell with the RF waves :o )

I had (still have somewhere, in fact) a pair of Aztech "500mbps" (lolz) home plugs, which provided a stable 70-80mbps throughput (this was a year+ ago when 100mbps was still the de facto fibre standard) with much lower latency than WiFi.

It's definitely a case of YMMV, but Aztech were kind enough to lend me a pair of the 500mbps home plugs to test for a weekend before I bought them.

High consumption devices aren't a problem per se, but anything with a motor can cause havoc. I was lucky in that mine were very stable, but I've heard of vacuum cleaners in particular being problematic.

Not to mention that Home Plug will not work even decently on socket extensions.

That's why you make sure to get the ones with a passthrough, so you can plug them straight into the wall then plug the extension into the socket on the home plug.

You can buy it but it's really not recommended to run your own fibre cable if you're not familiar with working with it, as it's very delicate. It's also damn expensive compared to regular cat6.

Thanks for the rather insightful views about Home Plugs. Perhaps that there are really above average quality of Home Plugs and really a hit and miss thing.

However, should Home Plug fails on some other cases, then it is a wasted time and effort (On top of $$) on it. Wi-Fi, if really won't work well, still can sell it as second hand easier than Home Plug.

Anyone experiencing super slow buffering on Netflix now with FreedomVPN?

Speedtest is fine as usual but the buffering is horrendous.

Tech support claimed no issue at the moment.

Hope someone can confirm

Thanks

Watching it now - no issues. Is it still buffering for you?

Yup.

Still buffering like crazy now. Auto will fix it at around the 500 to 600ish.

Manual at 3000 takes like minutes to load. Last less than 10 minutes before it buffer.

Traceroute to netflix.com did not yield anything suspicious.

Using wired and speedtest is perfect at ~200Mbps

Any suggestions?

I think this was discussed earlier where you should take the results on Speedtest with a pinch of salt. Speedtest is a single threaded test. If you have no prob with US sites which I don't, I really don't see it as a problem.

Is there any good way to test for international speed connection, I am still not getting consistent results even with local servers like servers hosted by Singtel or Telin , I can't hit past 200 Mbps for a 400 Mbps plan. Anyone else getting good results with other servers other than the Viewqwest one?

downloads with a download manager will provide a better indication of your international speed since you'll be using multiple threads. Trying out a few torrents is also good for the same reason, although speeds may vary according the quality of the seeds.

You'll usually find some good (ang legal!) torrents and direct download mirrors for Ubuntu releases :)

Hmmm still no issues here strangely enough.

Have you tried rebooting the zhone? Are you experiencing the same problem with Hulu and other Freedom VPN sites or is it just Netflix?
