Go YouTube see the reviews for bowflex vs powerblock.. Powerblocks seems to be a better choice.

Rockstar did a review of the Selecttech here: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/h...ilus-bowlfex-selecttech-dumbells-3561543.html

I sold away my OEM Selecttech 552s recently and am using Powerblocks now..

First impression of bowflex is that they are well made, albeit plasticky.. The plus point of adjustable dumbbells is mainly the small footprint and quick changing of weights.. I must say if you need quick change of weights, for supersets or drop sets, these are pretty handy.. It probably takes 3-5 seconds to change from one weight to another, making these probably the quickest adjustable dumbbells in the market..

I've not used them long enough to gauge whether they can stand the test of time.. General reviews found on the net usually points to the plastic cracking or mechanisms not holding the plates in place causing them to drop during your workouts.. Though it didnt happen to me, I must say it is a concern when u lift them over your face or above ur head.. It's not gonna be pretty if they do fall..

I got the bowflexs with the stand, and I think you probably can do without one, the stand is slightly high for me (I'm 1.75m), meaning at the end of a set where I use all 52lbs, I'm probably too shagged to raise it up (slight bend of elbows) to put it back on the stand.. Also, u'll have to "aim" it properly so that each weight plate falls back to its correct slot..

The 552s are pretty long, meaning the dbs get in the way especially when doing flyes or db press, meaning you can't get them as close as possible to get the flex you want.. I play around dat by turning my hands to neutral position so that the dbs wont hit each other.. The 1090s are even bigger and longer, probably as big as an Oly db so yeah it does get in the way at times..

As these dbs are made of plastic, u run a risk of cracking them if dropped.. Generally I don't drop my weights, but we know sh*t happens, I'm not quite confident they will be intact if you ever drop them from say a height of 1m, the plates might crack, or u'd spoil the mechanism..

If u search the net on reviews of the bowflex, particularly bodybuilding.com, the general consensus is that these dumbbells are crap.. They are not expandable beyond their maximum weight, costs a bomb to get them (original ones) and probably won't last u longer den ur tradtional dumbbells.. Safety is the key concern too..

Am on the powerblocks (older version) now, and I must say I prefer em over the selecttechs.. If u have the money, get the 90lbs Uerethane series, these weights are twistable/bendable, and droppable without compromising the warranty.. They are given a lifetime warranty as well.. When u outgrow the 90lbs, u have an option to upgrade these to 130lbs as well..

I had the chance to try the OEM powerblocks recently as well.. Although they look almost like the real thing, they don't feel as sturdy as they are made with alot of plastic parts.. I'm guessing these are made in China.. They are quite cheap compared to the real thing, but 50lbs probably won't last u forever, and I don't think they are expandable..
