was told can get only the non hd hubstation. left refurbished sets only. was told the hd hubstation is not free.

not true ... you have been misled !

who was it who told u that ? ... must be the branch u were at :s11:

i urge you to call SH hotline to verify ...
my first call CSO smoke me said only HD-I box
2nd CSO told me any of the 3 : HD-I ... HS non-HD ... HS HD
but one thing is, the CSO said he cannot authorize a change ...
according to him, must go back to the issuing branch ... cite misinformation !

i brought mine back to another branch (cos nearer) ...
changed without much fuss ... not sure if it's bcos of the problem i have with the HD-I and Dell monitor
but i suspect not, cos on the form ... i noted there was a code under the promo section

Thanks! I collected from Parkway Parade branch.

perhaps you shouldn't go back Parkway branch ... since they told u they got no stock
try other branches

i was at the Tanjong Pagar one ...
very small outlet, only 6 counters ... but wasn't crowded when i was there (only 3 counters in operation)
around 20 mins ... was there before 11am though

unlike the one when i first when to collect the HD-I, Nex Serangoon
many counters ... many customers ... weekday afternoon ... waited 45 mins just to get attended to

My 3800C is still working yesterday.

Paid for it previously but no longer a SH subscriber. The box is still used for free-to-air channels incl HD5.

Kind of stupid question, if I not a a SH subscriber or singtel subscriber can I still view FTA channel. I did try the hd box it is indeed very clear but if got to pay monthly to them for the box I rather not. or is there any bro here selling the old SCV box which I can still watch a clear FTA channel

Unfair charges for replacement set-top box

Published on Oct 24, 2013

ON OCT 11, StarHub sent my family an e-mail saying our HD set-top box had to be changed as it will not be supported by the company's TV network infrastructure from Oct 24. We were offered 12 months' free rental for the new box.

I explained to StarHub's customer service that my existing box was bought from it and I was currently not paying any rental.

I said I had no objection to StarHub changing the box, but there should be no rental charge after 12 months as the box is fully paid for.

I was told that StarHub would get back to me on this by last Friday, but I have not heard from it.

Why did StarHub sell the set-top box in the first instance, and is it fair for customers who have bought it to pay rental on the new box?

It's good this was published in ST…I'd like to hear what star hub has to say. How can you force someone to pay for a new box that you have decided to go with and ask people to discard a box that they have paid for and works just fine. It's really beyond me.

People who've purchased the 3800C should get the new box rent free as they have already paid a onetime fee for it.

Rental set-top box facilitates upgrades

Published on Oct 28, 2013

IN OUR continuous efforts to ensure a superior viewing experience on StarHub TV, we are currently upgrading our TV network.

As part of this upgrade, some of the set-top boxes, including the model that Mr Patrick Tan Choon Ping's daughter purchased in 2008, are no longer supported after Oct 24 ("Unfair charges for replacement set-top box"; Forum Online, last Thursday).

A replacement with any of the current set-top box models is therefore necessary to avoid any disruption to cable TV viewing.

To facilitate customers' conversion to our rental model, we will be waiving rental charges for the boxes for 12 months (the equivalent of up to $179.72). We can better serve customers with an enhanced TV experience using a rental model as it allows us to upgrade the boxes whenever necessary.

To enable a smooth transition for affected customers, we had sent letters from Aug 14 to inform them of the change, followed by a registered reminder letter on Oct 10.

Our customer service officers have been in contact with Mr Tan on this matter since he called our hotline to share his concerns. We will continue to work with him to minimise any disruptions to his TV viewing.

Angeline Tan

Assistant Manager, Corporate Communications

StarHub

PS: How 12 mths rental equal $17x??
