Need advice: Replacing Asus STX with USB Sound/DAC

I currently using a ITX system with only 1 PCI-e slot.
I intend to put a gpu in and changing the soundcard to an external 1.

Is there something better or equivalent of sound quality?

There are many good DACs around. For me, I only trust those who are really into sound as professionals... catch the hint.

A DAC is only good if it has the synergy with your output devices.

Was looking into the news @ Blue camp... and saw this...

n terms of connectivity, the Essence III features a 6.3 mm headphone out, 2 stereo RCA out, 2 XLR and 2 mini-XLR out. In addition, there is one S/PDIF co-axial out, and an S/PDIF in port, along with 2 3.5 mm Aux in jacks. In addition to the stellar hardware, Asus also has a great software monitoring solution in the form of the Xonar Audio Center.

Asus is selling the Essence III for $399 in the North America.

Even the cheaper Asus sound cards are a solid choice, something like an essence stx is already quite good and very bang for buck, especially used.

I have the STX, but becoz i'm on mITX and i wanna free up the slot for gpu. Therefore, i need to find a soundcard externally.
