Train only around the main area. And Fenchihu is about 40mins away from the main area..

Ah, so am I right to say that train (Alishan Mountain Railway) operates around Chiayi city, and around the main forest recreation area at Alishan, but not in between?

The TRA that stops at Chiayi station is the north/south main TRA line for the western side.. There's no mountain railway which operates around Chiayi City.
No more railway between Chiayi and Alishan..Only way up/down is by bus/car..

Only the main area forest railway is still around..

Bus up to the main area is typically about 2hrs+..Usually comes with a break about 45mins before reaching the main area..

How much is this card? Do they sell in airport?

You can buy this at airport but the card is non refundable i think. If not go to 7-11 and buy I-cash which works the same as easycard and can gain points as well to exchange for items like drinks, cup noddles. This card is non-refundable.

Easy Card

In fact u can grab this card free from tms. Need to register for something. When i go grab one, then i will have more info. Right now, take it as you can go buy from any metro station first.

Hi everyone,

Need the pros help on my feb trip to Taiwan. Will be gng in end feb to early mar for a total of 9 days. This year been to tpe>Taichung> nantou > SML standard tourist must visit places.

This time round SO and I are planning to visit the following places:
1) hualian > taroko (hualian is just the base camp I think)
2) chiayi > Alishan (to catch the Sakura season, we are into photography and R&R)
3) TPE > maybe cat village and mainly shopping for the wifey

We are aware that there is no train crossing from chiayi/alishan to hualian/taroko, so there will be 2 alternative:

1) land in tpe either start
Tpe > Jiayi > alishan > jiayi > tpe > hualian > taroko > tpe shop till we drop

Or

2) engage a driver to drive us from chiayi/alishan to taroko/hualian

Our trip this year mainly engaged drivers for nantou, Taichung and tpe for scenic. This time round we are concern if it is safe to travel through the mountain path to reach either destination hualian/jiayi.
Any bro or sis can share your experience or thoughts?

Another way will be to travel eastern or western Taiwan this time. I have been to kaoshiong several times some years back due to work so can't think of any place other than the lover river and night market.

Can experts share your trip itinerary or advice please.

Thanks a lot!

option 1 would b cheaper or u can take another option
Tpe > Jiayi > alishan > jiayi > taichung(via cross-island highway thru cingjing) >tpe>airport. But u need to stay overnight at cingjing n transport cost, accom cost is not cheap

gf took this portion when meeting me in mar->Tpe > Jiayi > alishan > jiayi > tpe. but u must reach tw very early if not u would haf enough time to reach alishan within ur day1
