My router is asus rt-n56u.

Everytime when i tried to enter the user and password, it just resets and prompts me to enter again. I cancelled the login and was presented with the following texts.

Settings have been updated. Web page will now refresh.
Changes have been made to the IP address or port number. You will now be disconnected from RT-N56U.
To access the settings of RT-N56U, reconnect to the wireless network and use the updated IP address and port number.

The only way to access the router config is to reset the router, but it works only for a while, then the whole process repeats again.

Anyone got any idea? It was working until i flashed to the latest custom firmware 3.4.3.7-075. I tried reverting back to previous firmware 3.0.0.4.374.979 but still not working.

I am having the same problem....but mine is ASUS RT-N66U. I am unable to get internet connection, was wondering is it compatibility issues or just settings?

Regardless in Automatic (DHCP) or PPPoE mode still couldn't connect to internet. Tried reset both modem and router, still not able to complete the setup.....sigh

there are some firmwares that trashes the webui and prevents access.

also, there must have been 1 browser that is still logged in or has auto-remember password set.

remove all that, and clear your settings (restore to factory default).

put everything setting back one by one.

that solved my problem.

That's strange cause the previous firmware was working for me but not now. Where do you get the auto remember password, i don't see it anywhere, and i always log out though i think its bugged cause it doesn't really logs me out. I could access the router w/o entering user and pass the next time when i tried to.

I will try to flash other firmware and see if it works. Btw, i still got internet connection, just that no access to the routers config.

just give it a reboot by switching off the power for 30s.

should work now. :)

Nope, switching off does not work. Only way is to press the reset button which completely wipes my setting. I am going to flash other firmwares now to see if it works.

I forgot to mention that my wpa2 key keeps changing even though i have set network key rotation interval to 0. Could this be the reason?

Questions to ask:

1. how are you connected to your n56u? wired/wireless
2. did you change your admin password? if yes; username: admin | password: xxxx(your newly changed password)
3. What is your PC Local IP Before and After changing settings on N56U?

What ISP are you using? Singnet/M1/Starhub...etc

Are you directly connected to ONT or to the modem?

1. Wired
2. No. I entered the default when asked to set up a password (admin/admin)
3. It was the same before and after. I manually assigned an ip to my pc. (192.168.1.15)

Btw flashing other firmwares does not work.

Do a nvram reset. Telnet into the router and issues this command,

mtd-erase -d nvram
reboot

this will clear and reset the router to factory default settings.

1 more question: is this the only router Connected in the network?

eg:

ONT --> ISP Router --> n56u

okay. You should try telnet.
see if that works.

If does not work you can try this:

I believe the router ip should be 192.168.1.1

Open command line via start--> type "cmd" press enter (winxp/7)
type in "ping 192.168.1.1 -t"
-t = infinite

leave it running while you set the settings.
after setting your settings, check and see your ping

you have some loss of ping(unreachable or packetloss)
this is normal.

After awhile it should be connected back.

then try access the router setting page.

If it doesn't work like usual, try using another browser eg: Internet explorer, firefox, IE.
If still doesn't work, try using your smartphone(that is connected to the wifi) or laptop via wired.

I beginning to think you may have a faulty unit

but try on other devices to see if you can access the router

I'm having the same issue as the OP and wonder if this issue has a solution. I am using RT-AC86U router running latest Merlin build. Router connected directly to ONT. Singtel fibre 150Mbps plan.

Internal access to router (192.168.1.1) is fine. Issue happens when trying to connect to router from the internet. I have enable the DDNS feature in router.
