pre-owned 3k+... brand new dunno how muchie....

latest price check on the original iconic 42mm omega speedmaster professional ref 3570.50.00 (the moonwatch) with hesalite crystal (aka atas plastic aka scratch magnet requiring regular polywatch patch up) and a solid s/steel case back is a shade under sgd6k before the standard 10% walk-in discount. Interest free instalments may be available. 13-15% if you ante up with cash in full.

42mm looks big on paper but it wears smaller.

the 42mm omega speedmaster professional moonwatch with scratch resistant sapphire crystal for both the front and back of the watch (my preferred iteration and favorite) aka the "sandwich" ref 3573.50.00 is sgd7.1k. exact same look as the above but the back is way sexier:

35735000-40.jpg

these are the only 2 moonwatches to collect.

i would avoid all other ierations, including collector's editions, except perhaps the version with the moonphase and date. yes i know moonphase is one the top 5 useless watch complications:

Top Five Useless Watch Complications | aBlogtoWatch

but the curvy moonphase aperture just looks nice, especially with a nice yellow or silvery moon on a nice blue background.

the omega speedmaster professional moonphase ref 3576.50.00. restrained, understated, nicely balanced dial without being too busy looking despite 4 subdials.

the same certainly cannot be said of iwc portuguese perpetual calender monstrosity.

Did anyone mention Zenith El Primero?

zenith el primero now minimum no sgd10k++ no talk.

Rolex Daytona

There are two series of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona. The original series, produced in small quantities from the early 1960s to the later 1980s, has a four-digits model or reference number, for example the reference 6263. This original series eventually became iconic but in very short supply in the early 1990s, which led to a second series to meet demand. This second series was a Zenith modified movement, the five digit series movements noted by dropping the "1" from the current 6 digit code is notably the most accurate of all movements whose pedigree is in the famous Zenith "El Primero" movement. This movement was originally manufactured and released in the '60s and is still the highest VPH mass produced movement on the market at 36,000 VPH. The "El Primero" movement is often considered the hallmark of chronographs for accuracy and reliability. Rolex purchased these movements for the Daytona and then modified the movement from 36,000VPH to 28,800VPH and made a few other subtle changes. These later series Daytonas prior to in-house movements were produced from 1988 to 2000 and represent the time period where Rolex Daytonas really began cult status, due to its limited production, accuracy, reliability and limited supply as they were coming from Zenith. This Zenith based movement is often considered more accurate and reliable than any other movement in the Chronograph space, including the current in-house Rolex Daytona model. The current series, the Rolex in-house made movement, has a six-digit reference number, for example reference 116520. The new six-digit Daytonas are certified, self-winding chronometers with chronograph functions. Rolex was, and remains today, a sponsor of the Rolex 24 at Daytona race at the time, and named its chronograph watch after that famous race.

Anyone knows how much an AirKing cost from a grey dealer?

you sure about the rolex air-king?

it wears very small - only 34mm - now considered ladies size and even ladies now wear watche bigger than that.

would your fiance be ok with that? if not, it'll be a shame as he's unlikely to wear it.

while it may be a rolex but imo, not the right rolex - just like how the two-tone rolex datejust is seen as an "uncle" watch.

for a young man, a rolex sports model like the submariner, explorer II or gmt IIc is more appropriate and appreciated, with perhaps the black faced explorer as a distant 4th choice.

no love for stowa fliegers? :s13:

my choice for b-uhr fliegers observation watches would be from laco.

some laco models come closest to the original with their bead blasted cases that looks like they've been painted blue-grey, straight lugs and solid case back with original style markings.

Haha already loving him. It's just a way of pampering him and I know everyone likes to be pampered once in awhile right?

Furthermore..a man should have good watches, no?=:p

amended to reflect reality, you're welcome.

just like how a woman wants luxury bags & shoes.

Hihi, what is actually the key difference btw blackbay and pelagos if I may ask? In terms of price and feature?

"can wear bracelet on weekdays and nato on weekends"- do you have pictures to show me what you mean?- Applicable to blackbay only or both?

the movement powering both the tudor black bay (bb) and the pelagos IS EXACTLY THE SAME.

so the bb has a date wheel but obscured by the solid dial while the pelagos has an aperture to show the date.

the depth rating of the pelagos >> bb as its case is stronger.

the pelagos is made of titanium. the bb is made from s/steel.

the pelagos features an innovative spring loaded clasp that will expand or contract as you flex your wrist and has dive extension so you can wear it over a wet suit.

the lume on the pelagos is a nice bluish green while the bb is just green.

the pelagos features full tudor's iconic "snowflake" hands and hour markers.

the bb has a nice gilt dial with gold outlined hands and hour markers which goes very well with the aluminium burgandy bezel, giving it a real retro, vintage look & feel in a very good way.

pelagos retails for approx sgd6k while the bb on its "distress look" leather strap is a shade under sgd4k. would be slightly more if on s/steel bracelet.

very detailed-ly written. used to be really firm on getting the pelagos, only towards the last part then kena swayed to the blackbay.

if talk abt retail i think the strap version now shld be also above 4k. i think theres a price increase and abit stricter discount recently.

1 thing to note. Pelagos, being titanium feels very light on the wrist, almost as if its not there. Some are ok with this, some love this but some can't stand it.

having spent some wrist time with it, it's not quite as light as one would imagine it to be, prolly owing to the thicker case needed for the depth rating of 500m compared to the bb's 200m or even the submariner's 300m.

but dang, it's such an unassuming yet robust watch. all matt dial, matt ceramic bezel and satin finish on the metal. a discreet, solid, stealthy tool watch which looks and means the business. the anti-thesis to a blingy rolex sub. and what a comfortable bracelet.

if only it uses it's own in-house movement. that would've been near perfect.

wasn't there a time when both the bb and pelagos were so hot in interest and demand, and supply so limited that there was a waiting list, no discount and some even try to demand a premium on the resale market? i think even the tudor boutique were only left the display models a couple of months back.

anyway enjoy your bb in good health. we certainly love the photo of the bb birthday cake your wife baked for you. :D

when the time is right, and if the pelagos continues to speak to you, just go get and enjoy it. yolo, right? :D

oh and get your wife some stuff she's been yearning. helps to diffuse the distaff nagging when boys buy their toys.

Tudor heritage chrono?
Depends if he wants something simple or something with more detail
It retails for the same price as pelagos but using a more refined movement

the original tudor monte carlo chrono moves me more than it's successor, the heritage chrono, especially the iteration that comes with tachymeter bezel and because it has the magnifying lens over the date at 6 o'clock which the modern iteration doesn't have.pity.

putting a rotatable bezel on a racing watch? what were they thinking?

these rules should be made ironclad:
1. tachymeter scales must come with racing watches.
2. unidirectional rotatable bezels go with dive watches,
3. while bidirectional bezels go with gmt watches.

I thought Tudor black bay is a good looking piece but consulted 2 friends and they said not nice:s22: One said don't like the red bezel one said dont like the face lol.

That leaves me to worry if I get it I don't know if my fiance will fall into their group or mine.

most young people cannot appreciate vintage because they haven't lived life long enough to develop the maturity & taste to appreciate the finer things in life - just like baller rappers who may make tons of dough but can only express their neanderthal, juvenile taste by slapping more diamonds on their encrusted, vulgar monstrosities. yee-uck!

glad that you're are among the enlightened minority like donten, etc.

you need to know your fiance's taste better to make a sound decision. most important: he must like it to wear it for himself.
