The character Huo Jian Hua is portraying, is surnamed Zhu. So it's Ming Dynasty lor.

it's set around 1480s, the 8th ming emperor. all the main background character and the lady are real ppl in history, but this is NOT a historical series. the records on the lady doctor is quite inadequate so there is much space for the producers to create storylines they see fit...

the main character tan yunxian, was basically borned with a golden spoon. her father and uncle were both mid-ranking court officials, grandparents were both famous doctors, her parents' gen drop the profession after they all became court officials. but she was well-trained by her grandmother in the medical profession from young.

the ming dynasty ish sort of like the british victorian era, moral values were rigidly upheld but sleazy literature was rampant... on the surface, separation of males and females in day-to-day business became a big issue, and male doctors are not always appreciated to diagnose female patients. female doctors are therefore in demand esp among rich families with GCP dotters. but female docs in ming dynasty oso suffered bad reputation cos they are generally involved in abortions, when the mainstream society superficially condemns premarital sex and extra-marital affairs...

the show tried to portray that she is the one that established the regulated female doc system in ming, which is a bit far-fetched. but tan yunxian probably had some impact on the female doc system in china at that time.

The real Dae Jang Geum was recorded in less than 300 words in historical text

but Korea make a 60 episode drama out of it

If China is to make any historical stuffs out, they will do it better than HK

look at Louis Cha novel... HK tend to copy out a part, and add in its own stuffs in between

KNN...even the costume is abit 'korean'....

i don't remember ming chinese clothing to be so 'thick'.....

Frd Ming costume is that thick ok and Korea tradition dress following Ming Dynasty, just that Southern China wear thinner and Northern China wear thicker.

As for female dressing is following more toward Sui Dynasty.
