The train is actually quite small compared to our mrt. I did that once and lucky the train wasnt that packed. So depend on your timing and which line you are taking. If im not mistaken, the metropolitan line usually has the newer train which is much spacious.

And one more thing, their stations are lacking in elevator. So have to carry your luggage up and down the stairs in some station.

Some of the stations have narrow staircases as well. So everytime i think of mrt..im grateful for their elevators!

Yikes! Thats a very busy station. Might want to plan ahead or have someone to help you with your bags.

Bear in mind that the London's Underground recently celebrated its 150 year anniversary. Many of the stations were built at the time where elevators and escalators were simply not yet invented or not in common use. The technology then to build underground stations was also in its fledgling state, hence you don't have the huge modern underground stations.

For me, the best network I have taken is the Paris metro; yes, once again, some of the stations and lines are very old; but look at the amazing connectivity and density. Most places in Paris are within 300m of a metro station.

The London network is not quite as dense as the Paris ones; but at least they have some redundancies and overlapping lines such that they are able to close some lines during the weekends for the (very important, as we now know) maintenance. Right now as the sg network stands, there is not enough redundancy to afford this sort of luxury.

I'll just wait for the exiting crowd to disperse before slowly lugging my barang barang up the stairs.

almost, all any point of time, there will be someone in the train with luggage.
if your luggage, those bulky types, best seat at the end of the train to avoid inconvenience to other passengers.

I find its best to stay where the end of the train are connected to each other. Cos usually pple enter from the centre of the train.
