IMHO to summarize for u. the DX50 is abt 80% of DX90.. after burning in the DX90 the gap getting further apart,, i would say DX50 abt 60~70% of DX90.

Compare both yrself.. maybe u cant hear the differences and u can save more money getting DX50 or X5.

ok thanks.. cos i'm trying to see if i can justify spending the extra bucks for a better DAP (i'm assuming both will be an upgrade over the iPod right) when i'm not exactly using a very high tier iem myself

ppl upgrading to DAP for the following reasons,
1) SQ
2) can play almost all looseless format
3) DSD playback
4) 24bit audio..

Whether to justifiable u have to see u have what kind of music files also

If u still listening to mp3 320kb/s and below no point getting a better DAP. IF yr music collection are at least Apple looseless or other looseless files upgrade yr DAP,,

U should have hear this "garbage in garbage out".. thus although yr IEM is not top notch u can slowly upgrade down the line..

right now is don't even have an audio player.. using a ******* nexus7 after my iPod died
i guess a bunch of my music still at 320kbps, but i've maybe 20 or so of my favourite albums that are ALAC / FLAC ba..

meanwhile coming back to this sub forum and headfi after so long getting me poisoned again, feel like trying out the Heir 3AI or other fun sounding universals around that price range as a possible upgrade

If the 320 mp3 is properly ripped, it will still sound good. A better dap does help in every little way. To the discerning ear, no doubt can hear the difference readily, but on its own it's still decent music. Imo changing to a better iem brings about a bigger difference than changing from a good 320 mp3 to a lossless, so don't let the file format discourage you.

I'm also quite appalled the playlist cannot be renamed. Also I would want to shuffle music from multiple folders (now I can only shuffle one folder).

Don't worry la. Tf10 is more than decent. I'm using xba-h1 and xiaomi pistons with it

Audio is a wonderful thing. Expensive doesn't always mean better, to you, to anyone. Synergy and personal preference play a part.

TF10 garbage wad?? I use DX90 with earpods oso like that
TF10 is the most loved universal IEM, i still have one and use it to "calibrate" my brain and ears expectation.
