let me share my experience. last time i would only want to buy spigen and high end brand for my devices. i used my spigen for my lg g pro. when i sold it, my spigen was worthless to the next person but me. these days i have since bought lower end brands or even no brand SP.

i find that they have served me just as well, i can't really tell the difference, probably just the thickness of the glass sp and that's it.

for my ipad mini, i coughed up $60 (IIRC) for a power support film SP, cos it was the best in class apparently. when it was applied, took it home and used my ipad. Guess what? So much fingerprints! felt like a cheap SP that i could have gotten at the pasar malam.

since then I have just gotten the cheap ones cause i figured, by the time it wears off and i get another, it would have either matched the cost of the expensive brand, or might even last me just nice. my xmax sp, which is much cheaper than the usual brand names, still going strong on my note 3 although i have another brandless glass SP lined up as my xmax cracked when i dropped the note 3.

recently updated firmware on note 3 but the msd corrupted. I thought could use some recovery software to retrieve the photo inside but turned out the whole msd is undetectable on pc n convergent confirmed it is spoilt. Just sent in to convergent for repair, they said it is a common problem among other brands as well when msd is used on android phones. most ppl buy android phone cos there is expandable memory n most ppl saved important things on msd but if msd is so unreliable with android, y do we still buy msd or even android phones?

I know there r some cases of msd corruption after firmware upgrading but I have not really heard that upgrading will damage the msd or maybe i wols.

Thanks. I think best just use back Samsung microSD on Samsung phone. Heard of some people with this problem, 1 of my friend kenna though. Think best when upgrading firmware, remove the microSD. Personally, from S1, S2 and now Note 3, i never have a corrupted microSD.

@Skaade and your reply has caused me to doubt my plans! Hahah I think the design of the buttons on the Spigen Bounce is pretty nice! All around protection.

Maybe brandless is the way to go uh.. Anything similar to the Spigen Bounce?

This sucks rite? How can samsung dun support other brand msd? i m kinda sick of android phones although apple is not that perfect too but at least I dun have to wait like 6 months for S2 to be updated to 4.1.2 n my S4 LTE+ (I9506) is still not updated to KK while I9505 already updated more than a month ago. Although KK update might not be ideal for some handset as some complained abt 4G problem, restart problem n even battery problem but at least apple bothers to try release another firmware soon to fix them.

N now this msd problem really puts me off, there were important n memorable photos in the card. Can blame myself for not backing up the photo before upgrading but upgrading should not have this problem, never ever encountered in S2, S3, note 1, note 2 n S4 before

They do la haha. Just that you always get those disclaimer in a fine print that says we recommend the use of our own lalalaalala for maximum compatibility.

Eh if you never encounter before in so many of their phone means this could be an 1 off issue for you. But funny thing is why people always harp on updates. While i like new updates too but as long as the phone is working fine, i don't see the need for updates. Maybe with new android updates, it always bring new features or some performance boost thats why people so gan jiong. So far for my ipod touch, since ios 7 came out, the updates were mostly bugs fixes and performance improvement and mind you, it's not performance boosting enhancement but performance boosting fixes. Several other updates come about bringing nothing new, so while Apple updates are quicker, they can pretty much update silently in the background and i wouldn't notice the difference.

Not sure how many friends you have heard from but my friends who had owned or own iPhone 5 (funnily none upgrade to 5S though) complained of the extremely lousy battery life, every single one of them said the phone on avg use, doesn't last them beyond 6-8hrs, even just putting it in standby takes away like 8-10% per hour so yeah, while you complain of a 1 off issue in the microSD card, which is understandable, my friends has to live with that kinda battery life for 1 or 2 years. Put aside performance different between my ipod touch and Note 3, i had more issues in my ipod touch than my note 3. If you say Apple is better, one of my friend also upgraded the firmware for her iphone, wiped out every single thing even though she was sure what she read from the T&C of the upgrade that it shouldn't have, went to the Apple store they also told her no way to retrieve back and she had like 1000+ photos of her kids and all without even the option of a microSD card to back them up.

otacon, i understand your frustration, that's why if photos are precious to me, i added cloud auto back up just in case. Backup has always been a user responsibility, we can blame the company but at the end it's our own memories that are lost.

speaking about updates..
my old 4s, i upgraded to the latest ios 7. and, holly molly, wifi is disabled by it. if you google, many 4s users complain about this.

i spoke to the apple cso online, (apparently u have to pay to speak to them if u r not under warranty, unless is software update issues) they told me is a radio fault w 4s models, detected by ios 7. and the only way to go about it is to go to a apple store and pay for the repair of the radio. dafuq!?
and i google about downgrading my ios 7 to ios 6. and the result is that apple has blocked users to downgrade their updated version.
wth. they are just forcing 4s users to upgrade their phones.
anw there are several youtube tutorials to enable ios 7 in accepting the "faulty" 4s radio. so yep. i succeeded and nt gonna do any updates for my 4s anymore.
