Anyway, no need to overthink it cos to me, it is just the cheapest current Intel chip (even has the HD 4600 iGPU like DC) you can try o'cing to bearable performance ie. good for o'cing beginners cos pushing it is simply so easy.

bro, the pentium K has HD graphics not the HD 4600 igpu. Otherwise it would have been perfect for a light gaming low profile htpc... solid dual core... crap igpu

no worries bro... i got more interest in the igpu cos of my htpc setup... either pentium k (oc) with low profile 7750 or vaporware a8 7600...

any bros here had any success with oc with pentium K on the asrock 85m or 87m? dont really want to pay asus tax for a cheap 85/87m board

In the US of A, the G3258 bundles make a lot of sense esp. if you can get hold of the budget Z97 bundles - USD100@MC or USD110@Newegg.

Actually likewise for their AMD APU bundles too... whereas locally, not much make any financial sense.

btw, which specific 85M model are you interested in? Think I only have the full sized ATX Asrock B85 Killer at hand for such testing...

The thought of paying to overclock appalls me.
Something supposed or used to be free are being charged.

Finding all sort of ways to milk us.
The new trend now is overclocking K processor for us and charged us a premium.
What a joke.

Yup, you are right. Intel is clearly milking us.

Back then when CPUs are multiplier locked, all we need to do is increase the FSB. Any board can overclock during the clarkdale times. Any CPU (i3/i5/i7) all can oc as well.

Then after SB came out, Intel locked up the FSB so it became impossible to oc with the FSB anymore and you can only increase the multiplier. Hence Z series of boards command a premium and K CPUs also command a premium.

Then now with Haswell refresh, we have double milking strategy. Milk you once with Haswell, then come out HAswell refresh to milk you again. Follow apple strategy...

Won't be surprise to see Intel doing this for all future CPUs.

We really need competition from AMD else this is what happens.

MacClipper bro, the asrock 85 killer also can try hehe... if can oc pentium or better still 4790k...

I can always get an asrock h85 killer with 4790k system as a replacement for my Fx 8320. :p

AMD not going to be performance competitive until the next gen cpu; hopefully jim keller does his magic...

How much is the B85 Killer board? Looks good. Saw on newegg USD92. If its like SGD 120 here it looks good and can pair with Pentium G well.

Leave it alone if all is working well.

afaik, the latest Intel ME fw version is 1487.

What you mentioned is probably the driver version which I have conscientitiously avoided to mention in my posts so far cos it plays no part in getting the new chips to work in series 8 mobos.

Pentium G3258 - Test Sample KIA?
legitreviews

We know of one person inside ASUS that was able to get 5.0GHz up and running with 1.5V on the core and 1.4V on the cache, but ended up killing the chip when running the ASUS ROG RealBench torture test.

FYI

Did a few days back.

Delid successful with pen knife.

Been doing a few i5-4670k. A piece of cake for the Pentium.

The die is noticeably 3/4 the size of the regular 4670k 4790k 4770k. As usual clay made TIM.
