Give the vice only method a try, I stumbled upon the smaller vice in Msia and bought it since it only costs ~S$6. More important it is safer to both fingers and chip.

Another voltage scaling sample with prolonged testing, I have made the > 1.30V results less prominent since 24/7 safety is debatable.

I managed to run my G3258@4.7GHz - 1h XTU ( Prime95 ) and 4.8GHz 1.4V Cinebench ( had no time to run it in anything longer ).

Scalling is really weird:
4.2GHz - 1.20V
4.5GHz - 1.35V ( 1.3V was giving 124 blue screen )
4.7GHz - 1.40V
4.8GHz - 1.40V in Cinebench R15
4.9GHz - problems to enter Windows up to 1.5V
5.0GHz - problems to enter Windows up to 1.525V

Vice looks dangerous for the resistors on the surface of the chip? Hmmmmm

Btw, anyone interested in getting G3258? Gotta see if I can reorder..

Initial testing of my 2nd PenK shows it may possibly do 4.5GHz <1.3V... still stressing it meanwhile. :)

Whatever happened to your...

- delidded chip, no results?
- 2nd chip, no results?

For mine, delidding the 1st cut load temps up to 5C and likely lowered the o'c vcore needed too. Still, my 1st chip is decidedly crappier than the 2nd as suggested by their idle VID values, a difference of nearly 0.1V.

=:p

Ah didn't tested it yet. Now only managed to find some time to do so.

After delidding it, I managed to bring down the overall max temp to 78deg. The difference of 5deg before delidding it. I have managed to bring down the vcore to 1.337v as compared to the previous 1.357v and yet being stable for a 4.4ghz clocked speed.

Some comparisons

Before Delidding.

After Delidding.

* Note Im on just air cooler. (Xigmatek Gaia 1)

I'm looking for a liquid cooler for testing soon.

EDIT: Also noticed each core difference in temperature have been narrowed down.

Before 9deg
After 5deg

And x264 die die wants 1.315V else meet Blue Meanie No. 124... temps not even breaching 70C with AC MX4 inside, custom water. :)

When coming? SLS selling the crappy G3240 only. Only Bliss has the G3430.

And price will be close to the i3 or i5 or not?

Is already sold in cybermind. Price is unbelievably low. About $15 away from 3240.

But CM price is higher than Tradepac right? Tradepac never stock this?

Tradepac dont stock this yet.

Cpu only price not much difference. Be it tradepac or other stores. Only bundle deal. Another alternative is amazon. Same price. But whether you get costa chip or not, that i dont know.

So what is the cheapest mobo to pair with this? Seems kind of pointless to get a Z series mobo for this.

Yeah for me thats the point, also Z87/97 boards very overpriced in SG and mobos aren't something people want to import from U.S. Cheapest one is MSI Z97 PC mate and I hate the bloody fact its also full ATX.

I have already asked around for budget mobos to test this chip liao... so keeping my fingers crossed for results tomorrow. :)

Meanwhile...

Did one significant change to my test rig and now got this!

For those are into solving puzzles, wonder if any of you can make a guess where or what the single change was...

Hardware - if so, which part eg. mobo, PSU, RAM... etc?
Software - if so, which part eg. OS, stress test, monitoring app... etc?
BIOS - if so, which option eg. SVID, LLC, VCCIN, RAM speed... etc?

Warning: This may be a tough one, not so easy to guess... =:p

I'm guessing bios. Ram speed set at lowest?
