yew tee. slow to everywhere since this afternoon, couldn't even access agoda.com
now slightly better but still very slow, ul.to dropped 66% of usual speed.

Try again tomorrow, the routing to a small selection of websites did something strange today but these things stabilize back to normal within a day.

yup they always overprovision one
Monkey can u overprovision till 1Gbps for mine ? can help u test network also

100% overprovision? Ayah just upgrade to 1Gbps lor, help chip in to fund VQ’s expansion plans (hehe dangling carrots but can't share more details) - it's cheaper than all mainstream competitor's 1Gbps plans

oh yah on wired sorry didnt mention. VQ overprovision their subscribers :) I also disabled Energy Efficient Ethernet & Green Ethernet under adapter settings. I don't know for sure if disabling it helps although i do see some difference on disabling green ethernet. Or maybe just a placebo effect..

Depending on the quality of your Ethernet cables, switch as well as length of cable, I noticed that enabling EEE/Green Ethernet/Cable Length Detect can seriously (940->850Mbps) affect throughput.

However if your cables are made until very solid or it's just a short run then there shouldn't be too much difference in performance (and you do save a tiny bit of power due to the much lower voltages used for the short cable)

Anyway having network-wide EEE is more if you think in terms of datacenter/building size deployments where thousands of patch cables' power savings adds up

Hi all, eBay is intermittently down globally for a timespan of around 24 hours due to a network maintenance by eBay:

Scheduled Maintenance For This Week

Try again tomorrow, the routing to a small selection of websites did something strange today but these things stabilize back to normal within a day.

thank goodness, I thought I am the only one having issues with ebay and other images hosting sites. The slow loading of the websites is gone after I restart zhone in the evening though.

i wonder how many are on 1Gbps, have the intention to switch to 1Gbps, but dont know how it will affect the current contract,or must sign new contract and got any freebies from the 1Gbps anot.

If you recently recontracted a bit tough, you will have to speak to CS or email sales@viewqwest.com to enquire.

The plan can definitely be upgraded but the freebies are on a case by case basis due to the discounted bundled hardware (if any) from ur existing 500Mbps plan.

I can't really advise on this because 1/3 my brain is addled by alcohol, 1/3 is occupied by VQ core network and 1/3 is busy thinking about new projects, no brain cells left to calculate all these

In the near future, you might get to see mine. ;)

You guys so atas. I am just using a super long PDU from abandoned server racks and a short 9U rack with its own UPS and PDU. My store room is strictly utilitarian, no budget for all these elegant showpieces :p

Just to share .... some peeps just loves to scrimp and want their routers to perform like Ferrari :s22: :s13: in Singlish Please lah .... + /facepalm hehe

Just loves how RMerlin responses :)

This time, apart from the routine freezing issue, the tasks (downloading files) just disappeared from the list !

DM can handle the first 10 files on the task list as showing “downloading”
if there is more tasks in the task list, those are indicated by “not begin”

I assigned DM to 30 tasks (which is the limit) ED2K files to be downloaded.
As I can see DM can handle, actually download 4-7 ED2K files at the same time but showing the first 10 ED2K files as “downloading”

But because of the freezing issue of DM, I had to reboot the RT-AC68U several times, as usual.
Although they were flashing (coming & going) in the first 10-20mins of the reboot, I was able to see all of my 30 tasks (ED2K files) every time.

Again, you are asking too much out of a 800 Mhz MIPS device with only 256 MB of RAM, all of it going through a USB disk. 20-30 concurrent downloads is too much, use a real PC for that kind of workload.

You won't get any better results with any other router of similar hardware specifications.

how come VQ forward route keep getting de-optimised each time there is a maintenance or new pop/transist route? the forward route for OVH now took a longer route to reach there instead of the previously i saw a switch-lon.ovh.net or something after VQ network.

also anybody know what is the current return route for OVH to VQ? the download speed like got limit at different time of day like 90-100mbps then sometimes 180-200mbps then back to normal >300mbps then cycle back again

currently dont have an OVH server to test, but might have a few in the next few days, can do a test for u if needed, but their network at times is really wtf, currently using softlayer and others, really good.

This is due to BGP taking time to recover routes as the network topology changes.

At the same time some higher bandwidth routes might also have higher latency, which for some uses such as lower thread downloads or game servers hosted in OVH range causes issues with other subscriber's needs.

At the end of the day it's an easy balance to make but since OVH is a contiguous network without different AS number to differentiate bulk file services vs game servers vs general hosting, it is a compromise between the needs of different users.

Eg due to GFW China, some links in are heavily congested while others with less congestion might take a hit in latency. Once again a compromise has to be met between latency sensitive and BW intensive uses.

However due to domestic users taking priority or in the case of OVH serving a particular type of clientele, they are not motivated to work with ISPs on alleviating these issues.
