Passed by Sun Moulin in Isetan Scotts and bought this Hokkaido Melon Cream Bun (Usual S$2.80, offer price S$2.40). Sugar crusted soft bun with very fragrant melon cream custard inside.

Lao Zhong Zhong, my lunch for $5.30
I avoid ordering the orange cuttlefish and Chinese sausage, the 2 most expensive items for 五香.

I bet it cost a lot for the above. I will just wait for NTUC to offer it at 1 for 1 and buy the almond ones or go JB to eat.

For experience once is good enough, else normally i hit the stores in JB.

The last time I ate at Itacho Sushi, they were still operating at their Basement 2 unit of ION Orchard. Maybe it's because now I do not see the long queue outside the restaurant whenever I walked pass to go to Isetan Scotts, I kind of forgotten them for almost three whole years. It was until these couple of weeks that I patronised three times due to their scallop sushi promotion.

Itacho Sushi
ION Orchard
#B3-20
Business Hour: 11am - 10pm Daily

Itacho's Sushi Recommendation Menu - Used to be able to order up to four pieces of their Salmon with Soy Sauce but now you are limited to just a piece each of the three available sushi.

0002-ItachoSushi.jpg

Itacho's Seasonal Promotion Menu - I did not order from this menu.

0003-ItachoSushi.jpg

Itacho's Kitchen Recommendation Menu - I only had the clam and beef tendon (not shown in the menu). On my most recent trip, the beef tendon seem to have disappeared from the menu.

The Authentic Way of Eating Sushi but I still preferred to use a pair of chopsticks instead of using my bare hand.

0005-ItachoSushi.jpg

My Orders - For my first trip, I ordered these dishes for a start.

0006-ItachoSushi.jpg

From the promotion menu, the Supreme Sea Eel (S$6.20) was a tad too rubbery to call it a good eat.

0007-ItachoSushi.jpg

I enjoyed the Clam with Butter and Black Pepper (S$4.50). The light creamy broth with black pepper went very well with the clams.

Tried Itacho's new creation, Scallop with Lobster Salad Sushi which had a fresh and sweet whole scallop in-between. The lobster salad mixed with a little wasabi gave it a tiny fiery kick in the taste department. At only S$1.50 each, this was a steal!

Ordering the Salmon with Skin Soy Sauce Sushi was a no-brainer since it just about the cheapest items on the menu unless you don't like salmon. Too bad you can only order one piece each else I would spam repeat orders. The one with mentaiko sauce was more delicious than the plain and butter ones.

The single piece of Scallop Sushi was so yummy that I decided to order three more. Between the one with Lobster Salad, with Roasted Duck Breast and with Flying Fish Roe and Cheese, I preferred the former as the spicy lobster salad pushed it a notch above the others.

Salmon Lobster Salad Roll (S$2.90)- The menu shows this roll with one end of the exposed rice sitting on the plate and the other open end topped with the lobster salad. Whoever made these rolls decided to present it in his own way.

0013-ItachoSushi.jpg

On my second trip, I decided to try some of the more exotic sushi and boy, were I disappointed with both of my selections. :(

Sea Cucumber Warship (S$1.20) - Knowing that sea cucumber is tasteless, I half expected there would be some condiments or sauce mixed in but alas, this was just plain to the taste buds. I will strike this out from my list the next time I go.

0014-ItachoSushi.jpg

Squid & Shishamo Roe with Black Sesame Pressed Sushi (S$1.00) fared a little better with a fresh citrus hint of lime to it but overall the sushi was still quite tasteless to me. And what were the two slices of cucumber doing in here?. Another one to strike off the list.

0015-ItachoSushi.jpg

Beef Tendon & White Radish with Spicy Miso (S$3.50) was a great pick. The chewy springy tendon and soft radish had absorbed the essences of the miso based sauce and when you popped a piece into the mouth, the flavours just exploded and mingled inside. Unfortunately, I couldn't find this dish listed in the menu when I went back again. :(

As you can see, I basically spammed on the Scallop Sushi for my second trip there. Got three each of the scallop sushi with lobster salad and flying fish roe with cheese. That tiny piece of roasted duck breast doesn't really contributes any flavour to the overall taste of the sushi so it was my least favourite of the three.

For my final trip, I had the Nami Chirashi Jyu that was priced at S$16.90. I was delighted that the rice came warm but on my first spoon of it, I found they had added a little too much of the sushi vinegar so it was kind of sourish. Sashimi was fresh though.

0021-ItachoSushi.jpg

Since I already ordered for the chirashi, so I scaled down the numbers for the Scallop Sushi. They also renamed the one with Flying Fish Roe and Cheese to Seafood and Cheese.

0022-ItachoSushi.jpg

As usual, one serving of the Assorted Salmon with Skin Soy Sauce Sushi.
