Is there a player on Android that supports DSD (dff) playback?

Neutron, Poweramp and USB Audio Player Pro can't play/recognise such files.

Totally not possible on Android?

DSD playback if not wrong is hardware dependent.

The iRiver AK240 is running on android OS, plays DSD natively due to the dual Cirrus logic DACs which support native DSD playback.

But it's DSD downsampling to PCM...

Think I wasn't specific enough. I am using Note 3 and using in conjunction with iDSD.

iDSD itself supports DSD decoding which I tested with Foobar in Win8.

Problem in Android is that there is no commercial Android music player which I know of, which support playing dff files playback. None recognise such file format.

I knew it was mobile phone as most mobile phone does not support
DSD. So no matter what player you install and try playing DSD on
your Note 3 it will not play as the hardware does not support.
I think what your statement is referring is whether is there any android mobile phone capable of DSD which is unfortunately no.

FYI most mobile phone does not support DSD as they are designed for normal listening but not for audiophile.
There are players able to play DSD like the Sony F886/887/Z1.

I using note 2 and also thinking of getting idsd nano. Since i dont have DSD file, i cant test on Neutron player. It is too bad that Neutron does not support DSD. But i still have my iphone 4 and cck, i could use it in ios platform until android player support this dsd format.

I can confirm Neutron does not playback DSD files. I have dropped a mail to USB Audio Player support and confirm neither do they support DSD as well.

Basically without a software player that supports DSD, having a DSD playback capable DAC is useless in this aspect.

In all fairness, iDSD sounds really good though in other file formats.

Question about DSD downloads from Singapore

Hi,

Interested to find out where do you all download/purchase your DSDs from Singapore? I have a Geek Out 1000 and wanted to try downloading DSDs and am interested in purchasing and testing on my laptop but don't seem to find any good sites in this region.

Seems to be a need for an Asian region DSD website that offers music. Was also at Sony 313 and it was a great showcase of how a retail outlet and also good emphasis on Master Audio. With awareness of these formats, i wonder if there is an untapped market of people willing to purchase music in this form factor?

In addition to the dual Cirrus, i believe the other factor is the XMOS I2S chip in the AK240. That is why even with the Sabre 9018 dac in the DX90 it cant play native dsd. The dsd files are real time converted to 24bit/88.2khz PCM (as is the case with Fiio X5)

So far the I2S controllers i know of that supports native DSD is from XMOS, Amanero and VIA. (check out ADL A1 DAC specs http://www.adl-av.com/products/headphone_amplifiers/A1/)

You can download (for free) and use the software called DSD2FLAC in a computer which is currently only available for MAC and Linux. A DoPFLAC file can be created from a DSD file regardless of DSD64 or DSD128 using this software.

The DoPFLAC file is essentially a file containing the original DSD data.

Just transfer the converted DoPFLAC file in your Android phone and play it through USB Audio Player Pro. USB Audio Player Pro will replay it as normal thinking it is a PCM, iDSD will automatically detect the DSD data within and replay it as the original DSD file natively. Do select FLAC/DoP Mode before doing the conversion.

I think on a note 3, the output sound quality won't be significantly improved by using DSD files. I think at most FLAC should be sufficient?

You are right, there are currently no apps available to allow Android to play DSD files, only IOS platform has apps that allow music playback of that quality. Btw, are you using the Micro or the Nano iDSD? Might have some other ways to enhance playback experience.
