Hi:

for those on the old 12GB/3G plan, do you feel that the data reception is getting worse?

I've been experiencing something like that since the beginning of 2014.. At certain spots where I got reception, surfing speed is fine. But I noticed that it's very bad at certain locations:

1. Riding MRT, in between stations, I can hardly get any data coming in, until the train stops (I usually ride NS line, from YCK to DB ghaut)
2. When driving, at some spots, even though I get full bar, my Gmaps can hardly load, until i drive off to another location.

3. Some times when I try to even read news, the pages won't load until like 1minute later.

this happens often enough in my daily routine, that I'm suspecting that something is wrong with M1 3G base stations..

anyone has similar issues with 3G reception?

Did it used to work before, but now stopped?

I noticed that with SingTel on the underground section of green line, the 3G is completely dead at full bar - strong signal, NO data. When I switch to 2G I can finally get data (at slower speed, of course).

On NEL, I can get full 4G and great data speeds. Somehow SBS Transit seems to care about giving great mobile experience in their trains, while SMRT doesn't give a hoot.

like my friend on AMK shift to comonwealth and he omg hishub network lags and he sian and he plan to shift to another location

or else jump ship to another telco

and old mrt line having crap data speed is not uncommon
unlike circle and NEL line is 4g enable

I don't mind if I can only get 3G underground in old MRT line... if the damn thing WORKED!

It's like dead at strong signal, anything I try to do on the internet never works. WhatsApp messages remain pending, browser pages don't load, app refresh doesn't work. All this with full bar signal.

As soon as I switch to 2G, everything works. WhatsApp messages get sent, pages load, app refresh works.... but all these in 2G speed (good enough for WhatsApp but laggy for others).

Any chance this happens after u change phone?

I notice this issue after switching from s3 to note 3.

Even though reception is full, the data just doesn't flow.

For LTE phones, check your Mobile Network settings. My Note 8 was set to LTE by default, while my M1 12GB SIM is only a 3G one.

Other than that, yes, I've also noticed a gradual drop in data connection ... and I thought it's my devices. Hmm...now I'm not that sure... :look:

yes, I initially had the same thought too. I thought my HTC one was spoilt, so I changed to LG g pro earlier this year, and behold, the same problem exists.

SingTel also like that. NO NETWORK at all. Call CSO all they do is push the blame on your phone but all my phones are like that, means all my phones got problems?

I think it is up to us to feedback to IDA. I write an email to IDA about M1 having the LTE connection but practically not usable at all where websites and apps cannot get through in this particular area.

Until people write in to feedback, the network has no problem.

After my 2012 Feb incident with SingTel where their base station at Tiong Bahru was damaged for a good 3 months, i realised that SingTel has no activate way to check over the CSO way if there is any issue.

I do not normally wish to write in to IDA unless the Telco does not admit they having an issur on their end.

Is it always at the same place/area? Which phone you are using?

I was from m1. Then changed to StarHub in 2010. When I was on StarHub, the places m1 was strongest, StarHub no bar. Vice versa.

Reminds me of gsm days where I get cut off when train enters tunnel. Hehe...

Can we use 4G while still on the old 12GB plan?

Something struck me recently, that maybe only those who have renew/"upgraded" their 12GB plan to the new one (3GB?), then can use 4G network. :s11:

Don't feel like calling their CSO to check, though. Not really a fan of talking to these CSO. =:p

If you're on the old 3G/12GB plan, 4G is disabled on your SIM by the operator automatically. So, no, we cannot make use of the 4G network.

I recently SURRENDER and finally recontract with 4G after more than 2.5yrs of sticking to my old contract of unlimited data 3G!
What's the use of unlimited when I can't even load a single page at times... and its getting more frequent since late last yr!
We consumers are always at the losing end in this ever increasing monopolistic society! U can stomp and Case and Facebook those small shops in simlim... but the real evil unscrupulous big boys will never be affected!!

12 GB data plan is good for its time, but most telcos now have limited data plans but with 4g+ capabality which is very fast. M1 can be spotty in some areas. I have ditched M1 since 2008 and starhub since 2012. I found starhub to be the worst offender. I went for singtel and I am happy with the data reception as well as signal strength. Singtel also have a few quirks in some areas, but I am liking it better than the other 2 telcos.

yes i agree that Singtel generally has the best reception among the 3, followed by M1. I experienced that personally too when switching from Singtel to M1.
