Any1 had heat issues with zhone router? Mine is inside the DB closet and I feel the top surface with my hand is hot!!

Is it normal for the router to be so hot? I on it for 24/7 non-stop bcoz of my ip cams.

I guess most of the newer places are designed as such where the FTP is inside the DB closet. Mine is no exception.

I believe looking at the overall ventilation of the DB closet (if all your networking gears are centralised inside. I have mine designed as such.) instead of just Zhone ONT as it is more resilient to heat than some other gears (eg. ERL/ERPOE). If heat within the DB closet can be released, then the heat generated from individual gears would likely not be an issue.

I am not good with pen down of thoughts. The gist of it is like think of the DB closet as a big PC chassis where airflow matters. ;)

Aka Cut up the closet to ventilate and install liquid/nitrogen cooling?! =:p=:p

Can't help it, our tropical weather is such. Putting a usb fan under it helps alot. I do this for both Zhone and N66U. On the N66U, the temp sensor shows ~5 deg C less. Less heat, better ventilation, longer life.

Reporting :D water cooled routers anyone? Lol :D
How about water-cooled switches. :s13:

Anyway, made some headroom with the 'noise' issue after stage 1 changes I have introduced. Now running for 3 days and the noise level is within acceptable range while no impact in temperature (no rise up spotted). Stage 2 pending delivery. ;)

Stage 3 is whole house air conditioned 24/7 like data centre along with "in-case-of-fire" auto activation equipment?! :s13::s13::s12:

What is the slated performance of the zhone's wifi?

With the newly placed AC87U in the study, the wifi doesn't even reach the toilet, which is <10m, though with 1 or 2 walls depending on how the line is drawn. Finicky!

Thinking of taking my friend's suggestions and using a mikrotik in place of the zhone, and then using 1 (or 2) unifi ap pro.

Currently how long does it take from registration to activation? My ST contract is almost up, and I'd figured that I should consider jumping ship, since ST doesn't offer ISP mail with 1Gbps.

ps: Not trying to ask if VQ has email, and I might as well use existing own domain name for email from here on whether I recon to ST or sign up VQ.

Well your first question is a rather tough one to answer. typically it should be between a week to a month, however *if* you meet with capacity issues from Netlink trust side, it might drag to 2-3months or even more(thou unlikely, since VQ follows up with netlink trust rather often).

So in lieu of that, welcome to VQ in advance:s13:

I guess should get the paper signed around now then, since there is slightly less than a month to contract over, and I'll probably sit on ST off contract for another month or so to fully migrate the email over.

Recon to ST 1Gbps is more troublesome than just the no ISP email, as it seems they want to use port 2 of the TP, and it makes a recontract just about as troublesome as jumping to another ISP <.<

Not LN2 ah? U supposed to bring phase change + LN2 later and we will set some Speedtest records right??

You go help me find suitable LN2 pot first + mountings onto the CPU die :s22: ;) I sponsor my Fluke 50 Series thermometer for your usage for free :D

Don't even know ARM CPU can be operable @ extreme negative temperatures :s22:
