Hi LCHFers,

New user here. An intro - I was obese 4'ish years back (102kg), slimmed down to 68kg 2 years later, with a combination of heavy lifting and eating at a deficit (no proper nutrition plan tho)

I knew of keto and had tried atkins (half-assedly though) back in 2004. With my "experience" with atkins and that I was losing weight (despite eating pratas), I thought keto was full of crap!

2 years later, I gained alot of weight back. Wasn't eating at deficit anymore and worst, rarely hit the gym!

So before I hit my original weight back, decided to "lift heavy and eat at a deficit" again that worked for me before.

This time it didn't go as planned. I was hitting 1600-1700kcals a day (My TDEE is supposedly be 2000ish) but there were little progress. Also it was so demotivating to start with zero weights again on the oly bar in the gym.

I can't remember how, but I watched a youtube talk by Dr Robert Lustig whom gave me an "ahah!" moment with sugar and carbs. Researched further and watched "Fat Head" and "Cereal Killer" as well. This is when I decide to try keto.

Went for it for a full month, lowering my carbs to 80g at first, then down to 30-40g.

It was great! No sleepy spells in the afternoon, food high in healthy fats are DELICIOUS and finally, I felt progress, both on the scale, appearance and how loose my clothes were.

Also I don't crave sweet or carbs much anymore, 90% dark chocolate actually doesn't taste so bitter and I am gaining results without calories counting as well.

I am convinced keto is the way to go. This is a lifestyle change that I enjoy and can commit a lifetime to.

My apologies for the long post! I hope to be part of HWZ's LCHF community and learn more from the seniors here!

Welcome :D

It's going to hard to lose weight on a self-imposed restricted diet hahah

But LCHF does it naturally cos the higher fats will keep us satiated for longer

And because we are eating more real food, our bodies won't crave as much as before when we were eating sub-optimal processed food...hahah

Recommend that you read the links on the first page - sorry if some of them no longer work...no time to go amend all of them but do let me know which are not working and I will try and fix them (time permits of course) :o

Questions are always welcome but we believe in self help here first...hahah

hello, go try 99% chocolate.

Haha I did, Lindt's 99% chocolate from cold storage. It's a great "filler" to eat with another lower % dark chocolate (say 85%) but on its own, can't say I enjoyed it lol.

Thanks for the welcome! Felt like I stepped into Zion from the Matrix haha. Anyways while searching for LCHF, I stumbled onto your before-after thread, that was an amazing transformation. Hope to be on the same trail as you :D

Thanks for the welcome! Yep I will read up the links before posting any questions. Also I have been lurking r/keto on reddit for a while now, so I can say I got the basics of lchf nailed down. Still would love to learn more from the seniors here, especially on local lchf friendly recipes :D

Not that difficult once we know what we should not be eating - the rest is fair game...hahah

Just look up the recipe and replace those high-carb ingredients with low-carb alternatives :D

I usually like to do stir fry dishes (especially for greens), grill and pan fry :s13:

Anyway, can I bitch and let off some steam? Hahah

Recently joined a FB low-carb group and some of the information/advice there is really :s22:

And worse, some of the clueless people actually look up to her like machim goddess or something...hahah

Yesterday, she posted her workout which consists of simi bicep swing (WTF is that), 2 x 20s plank - seriously?!

Think it is a matter of time before I get kicked out for correcting her =:p

I won't go as far as blending raw meat but hey, who cares what people say...

It's our health - we need to take responsibility :D
