I have bought a unit of 68U the week before and I have had it exchanged 3 times within 7 days.

While I have read and follow on this track but as there is no other router of my choice, I didn't to get one and have it tested today.

So far, yes it is hot but still within my tolerable range as I only switch it on for only few hours. I have no problem of setting up and have been using 5G with my MB Air.

I have also tried streaming on my TV through cable. So far have not encounter any problem.

Speednet test for 5G can get up to 500Mbps. I am ok with the reading but not sure if this is good.

Speednet test on cable can get between 800 to 900+Mbps.

My home network is simple and direct. Enabled all normal security protections. I hope I will not encounter any problem.

I have not upgrade my firmware worry of stability. My last 68U start to have problem after I upgraded the firmware.

i think the lemon law allows for a refund.

True.. you can argue on this.. but first before you get the refund, u gonna pay money for the procedures without knowing whether u will win or not.

Not worth it for a 399 router. Takes a few months too..

I finally bit the bullet and am calling it quits with my 1 month old RT-AC87Us. I ended up working too much on them rather than the 2 units working for me.
Happy to trade on speed and go back to stability and mental peace of knowing that the phone won't ring from home saying Internet is down and I say reboot the router!
I don't have the packaging. Units were purchased at Challenger for $389 each. Happy to dump them for $330 each. Pls PM me if interested.
It's a shame to let go of such a premium product. Hope Asus is listening...
They have yet to respond to my complaint requesting for a refund.

330 is too high brother... New set at CG section can get 300 negotiate.

Have to lower like 250 or below for someone to pick up and spend time to RMA till a good unit.. I think ..

So fast throw box away also make resell value drop...

to get a refund, going through CASE or Small Claims Tribunals is not the only method...

Actually nothing wrong with each individual unit. They work perfectly well independent of each other.
It didn't address my issue of needing 2 units in the same network due to my condo layout and the range I need.
Also, Asus don't advertise anywhere that 2 units cannot do-exist on the same network.
Gray area for lemon law.

BREAKING NEWS.........

Just got DCed on my 5ghz.

1) Was using Merlin's latest firmware and it was fine from last night till 4pm. Than the 5 ghz SSID suddenly went missing.
I decided to upgrade to the latest official firmware doing in hard reset in the process.
Within 30 mins, the first DC happened. Checked the system log and saw this

Jan 18 17:16:29 kernel: br0: received packet on eth1 with own address as source address
Jan 18 17:16:39 kernel: br0: received packet on eth1 with own address as source address
Jan 18 17:34:52 kernel: br0: received packet on eth1 with own address as source address

Gonna try it out for a day or 2 and if DC still happens. I will go back to Merlin's latest firmware.

temperature was running at about 60 degrees.
Why not just try reduce the TX power to 40% each for 2.4G and 5G and test again ...

With lower CPU temp + lower power .. see how stable .

For me now 2.4G is only 3% and 30% for 5G , still it covers all my house access requiremnt for all devices.

Hooted this from SLS .........

Small and adjustable leg .... hide below cannot be seen .....:D

YJE8BG6.jpg

Temperature drop from both command - 12 to 14 deg

For the Quantenna SoC: qcsapi_sockrpc get_temperature

For the Broadcom CPU: cat /proc/dmu/temperature

Now about 68 to 70 deg ....... was 80 above .... max 83 ..

Not as good as those large base laptop cooler... but I have limited space so have to pick this choice....

Price wise........win all your laptop cooler.............. $5 .....:D

And noisy level ....... I put my ear 50 cm away also cannot hear anything.....:D

Huh? ........ my set no issue .... those I reported one was all fixed with drivers update in laptop ...

Just that now I also bring down temp ....... Tx power 2.4G @ 5% and 5G @ 35%.

Making sure all at good environmental ....

Updated : Temp stable down to 66 to 70 deg ......... I think by default Asus should supply this fan lah ...

Not sure how long wil the fan last .... anyway $5 can always buy spare .... if 3 mths breakdown just swap ba .....

So far I haven't upgrade my new firmware. Waiting for a while to see whether any issue with new firmware first. Cannot suffer another heart attack. So far if u disconnect and connect 5G, it works but I worry after upgrade firmware, all don't work including Lan, none 5G. Haha!
