[HELP!] Monitor Resolution Problem

I'm using a HP w1907 wide screen monitor. It turns on fine but the resolution is screwed up. I can't display it in 1440x900. I checked the screen resolution display it shows up as Genaric non-pnp Monitor which isnt supposed to.

I have updated all drivers etc but it still doesn't work. Even tried manual driver selection but ends up showing "Display on VGA" instead of HP w1907.

So far the only work around I have found is to keep rebooting my computer. With some luck it will turn on fine with the correct resolution and monitor detection. But right now it isn't working

Is it VGA cable problem ?

Expensive to get a DVI cable? Challenger got sell ma? Just realise my computer actually doesn't have a VGA port i'm using a adapter for it.

You should check if your monitor comes with DVI cable if there is DVI port on the monitor.

you must select the following option when you are at your desktop, right click, and then choose monitor resolution. Then choose "advanced settings"---> then the second tab "monitor" and uncheck the hide option and then select the appropriate settings.

Tried. Still same thing no options to choose 1440x900 or other displays only non pnp monitor available. Is it cause your's is Genaric pnp monitor but mine is Non pnp monitor.

You should check if your monitor comes with DVI cable if there is DVI port on the monitor.

Don't have ba this monitor has been with me for ages . It came with my previous desktop. The current desktop i'm using is a different one that didn't came with a VGA port.

Didn't work. Installed and restarted still same now. Still shows Genaric non-pnp monitor

Are you using discrete video card? Is it detected correctly?

try turn off monitor, unplug all cables & power cable from monitor, press & hold monitor power on button for 30 sec. then connect all back & cross fingers...

Tried already previously. It sometimes work but then once I shut down or restart comp there's a chance it will screw up again. Currently its screwed up. Restart, unplug and reboot many times but no luck don't seem to be able to get it working .

Try manually update the monitor driver to PnP monitor. or you can extract the HP driver to a folder and update manually. the readme.txt in the extracted folder should guide you how.

HOW TO USE:
1. Download the file by clicking the "Download" or "Obtain Software" button and saving the
file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where the downloaded file is saved).

just click the "Next" button to use the default location. The copying process will begin.

Manual Driver (INF and ICM) Installation

SP54735 will give you the option to unpack in the folder of your choice or will create
the following default folder on your "C:\" drive:

In the event of an installation error or if you just prefer to manually install the INF and ICM files,
follow the steps below. Instructions may vary between computer systems.

MICROSOFT WINDOWS 7 BASIC, HOME, PROFESSIONAL, ENTERPRISE and ULTIMATE EDITIONS
1. Attach HP monitor directly to your computer.
2. Restart your computer.
3. Click on START -> CONTROL PANEL.
4. Click on "Adjust screen resolution" option under the "Appearance and Personalization" section.
5. Click on the "Advanced settings" text.
6. Click on the MONITOR tab.
7. Click on the PROPERTIES button.
8. IF the USER ACCOUNT CONTROL window appears, click on the YES button.
9. Click on the DRIVER tab.
10. Click on the UPDATE DRIVER... button.
11. Select "Browse my computer for driver software" option.
12. Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" option.
13. Click on HAVE DISK... button.
14. Click on the BROWSE... button and navigate to the following directory:
c:\Swsetup\Monitors\HP_w1907_3.0\Files
15. Select the "HP_w1907.inf" file and click the OPEN button.
16. Click on the OK button.
17. Click on the NEXT button.
18. Click on the CLOSE -> CLOSE -> OK -> OK buttons to exit.

Are you using discrete video card? Is it detected correctly?

What's discrete video card? I using ATI radeon 4350HD graphic card.

There's definitely some detection problem. It suppose to show up as HP w1907 wide monitor but instead its showing up as Genaric non-pnp monitor.

Tried to manual force it to use HP w1907 driver.

It manages to get rid of the Genaric non-pnp monitor and correctly displays the type of monitor under the monitor tab. However problem still persist. Now under display its showing as Display Device on VGA. No option to choose 1440x900 resolution.

Just did the following same result. Don't think is driver problem . Will try to get a DVI cable over the weekend and see how it goes .

Came home and switch on my computer. Now is working as intended .

Thinking of just letting it on 24hours. Tried sleep mode previously but didn't work.
