ASUS Rampage V Extreme or MSI X99S Gaming 9 ACK?

Hey guys,

I am intending to get 5960X by end of this month.

I have headache over choosing mobo for the processor. Hope the pros here can guide me along. If I am to change processor, will I have to re-apply the thermal compound?

I had H100I, SSD, HD. Graphics card I am using ASUS GTX780 DirectCUII (Hope it won't be bottleneck-ed?)

Purpose, Video rendering and photoshop. Some light gaming on CS:GO, Overwatch and League of Legends.

Please advise.

it's sole purpose is to process gameplay video for streaming, works best with xsplit...
reduce cpu dependency...

Thanks bro. Sorry for hijacking. I thought new generation cpu will be out soon? Won't there be any to take over 5960X?

The 5960X is a octo core beast, while the upcoming Skylake is probably much better in clock to clock single thread performance, do note that its only a quad core variant.

For video editing that depend on parallel processing, the 5960X will still perform better due to the extra cores.

I pair my 5960X with the Asus Rampage . Over the years I have used many brands of MB and Asus stands out as one of the most reliable in bios update, performance and color combination. Overclocking is so easy with Asus.

The MB chosen must also match the RAMS that u intend to use

By the way I used my rig for occasional web surfing only.

would you mind recommend me a good water cooling?

how about the mobo? either one will be good?

Motherboard I have better experience with Asus cause of oc utilities. Water cooling a Corsair h80i would suffice. Thermal compound I would stick for mx4

I intend to start with 16gb 2666mhz corsair vengeance. What is your advise about the ram?

I had h100i? Is it not good enough? Please advise.

I am going for the MSI board.

Dropped you a PM regarding the ram.

Corsair Vengeance rams are one of the best imo, swear by them.
But if you want value for money might want to check out the Crucial DDR4 Sticks.

I'm running my 5930k off a h100 test bench style while I get my WC equipment, so far so good. Running with a slight OC.

To me, if you intend to overclock just go Asus Rampage V, a huge community out there for you to maximize and leverage on.

But if you intend to do a mild stable OC, get the MSI , should be sufficient.

As I scare that OC-ing will void the intel warranty, so I won't be doing any OC. In the future, probably if performance starts to decrease. I am oc retard though. Haha.

Ddr3 ram 16 gb will suffice no need spend extra money for 2666 mhz cause it is most likely c11 instead of c9. Your cooler is good enough. But if your fan sucks go get static pressure fan.

Err, correct me if I am wrong, is X99S boards compatible with DDR3 ram?
