Hi I am looking for a basic fhd led no-frills TV. My viewing distance is about 3 meters therefore I think 40 inch will
Be ok ...(will 48 inch make the hd starhub cable video very pixelated?)

I don't want edge lit. I want the LED where individual LEDs can switch off to
Acheive deeper black(what is the term ah?)

Since there are
So
Many options and brands
And hd(1920 by 1280) is basically available on every offer....I want to
look for the TV that has the best sound output...

Any particular brand suggestion.

I don't care about warranty since I will
Just throw away and get another one. But I die die don't want display set(maybe will
Avoid courts, gain city and audio house)

It seems you want the impossible by requiring the TV to be "no frills"and yet want best sound output and want deeper blacks. If you want deeper black, its either OLED or full array LED which unfortunately is much more expensive.

So are the term

Led-lcd edge lit(almost all Samsung)
Backlit led-lcd
Full array led-lcd

Backlit is good enough for starhub digital output right?

Generally what brand has good sound...not audiophile quality laah...just decent

What brand last longer regardless of high-end/low-end

Those buying Toshiba led tv may like check the warranty spelt out in their Singapore web site.
eg
40 to 55 inch, model L5450 bought before 15 july 2014, warranty only 1 yr. After 15 july, panel is 2yrs, parts n labor 3 yrs.
Model L2450 before 15 july 2014 3yrs for panel parts n labor. After july 2014 only 1 yr warranty for panel parts and labor.
I checked up after different shop tell me differently. Call up toshiba the girl say above 29 inch panel only 2 yrs. But even she is not accurate. It depends on model, their website shows

Hi guys, been a while since I shopped for a TV.. no choice, LG TV just died and looking for a replacement.

Looking for the best picture quality and maybe good warranty.

Have narrowed down to the following but difficult to get a side by side comparison and they always show different stuff from different sources at the stores.

Toshiba 40" L5450
Toshiba REGZA

Samsung 40" UA40H5100AK
UA40H5100AK 40 Series 5 Full HD LED TV | SAMSUNG Singapore

Samsung 40" UA40H5303AK (this has ports facing the rear and not the side, may not be suitable for wall mount)
UA40H5303AK 40 Series 5 Full HD LED TV | SAMSUNG Singapore

Panasonic 42" TH-42A410S
TH-42A410S LED TV - Panasonic Singapore

Come to picture quality, I do think Sony has an edge.

Some suggestion as below:

Sony 40" LED HDTV KDL40W600B - Lion City Company Online Store

Sony Bravia 40

I always have good impression of Panasonic products as they are quite durable though I do not know if the same applies to their LED TVs.

You missed the Toshiba 40" L5450 timesale on Qoo10 2 days ago. It was going for $399 but limited to 30 sets.

Not sure about the other 3 but this Toshiba model uses backlit LEDs. Most budget TVs use edgelit technology.

Toshiba will be shutting down its TV operations and outsource its production completely in US. They plan to do so for other regions except Japan.

So if their current TV got problem in future, dont't know if the 3rd party factories will have parts to do repair.

Seems the backlit LED is the higher end L9450 which is capable of 4K upscaling, if I didn't have a budget, I would go for that..

Last checked, seems there's extra charge for wall-mounting - $100 for Sony and about $60 for Samsung.

Toshiba and Panasonic have free wall-mounting.
