Hi experts. I got a new dell u2515h, using it with palit gtx 460 gfx card and hook it with hdmi cable. The card can support 2560 x 1600, monitor can support Qhd. However, I can only get to 2000 x 1xxx .... Anyone seeing this prob?

Not expert here but a fellow Dell monitor user. Experienced this before. I think it might be a limitation of the HDMI output/cable. It can only output up to a certain resolution. Do you have another type of cable? Either displayport or dvi. That would probably work.

Edit: just checked dell website for your model and it doesn't say anything about limitation of HDMI cable. Mine did have a mention on the website about limitation of HDMI output though - I'm using u2713hm. Still, no harm trying a different type of cable to see if anything changes. The experts here will probably know better.

Just to double check, are you using a HDMI to HDMI cable, or a HDMI to VGA cable? Show us a photo if you can, so that we can help

Edit: googled and found someone on Geforce forums who had the following solution:

I had the same problem on a different GEforce card (N210) - couldn't get more than 2048x1152. If I went into the NVIDIA control panel I could set a custom resolution of 2560x1440, but had to set a lower frequency - it was high res, but looked poor.

However, I then discovered that changing the 'timing' from automatic to GTF solved it. - I now have beautiful 2560x1440 at 60Hz - it looks fantastic - using a lowish cost (but 1.4) HDMI cable on a low cost NVIDIA card - don't let anyone tell you that you will need to use the display port or dual DVI outputs

It took me a while to sort it, but now finally enjoying the full benefits of my Dell U2515H

This link has some info on how to change: Advanced Timings | NVIDIA

Bit long but they have some screenshots so you can follow step by step.

As always, I advise to wait for the experts to jump in and advise, just in case.

I just got the same monitor today, but using the DP which works fine. Just checking if you are using a HDMI 1.4 cable? I recall older versions may not be fast enough to deliver the bandwidth required for this monitor. I may be wrong, but well worth a check. :)

Changed from Auto to GTF, and yet need to use "Customized setting" to set to 2560 x 1440.
The IQ does look super sharp, but I felt I'm "forcing" the monitor to go to that res. so I switched back to 2048 x 1152.
Also changed to another HDMI cable, does not help. -> Is there anywhere to test the cable, which version it is?

Forcing a resolution is not rape.

Use it or get a newer gfx card that supports display port.

use dual dvi to dp adapter, hdmi bottle neck
i used 2713hm
dual dvi n dp will work 2560x1440
hdmi only 1920x1080

might be gpu output or cable (hdmi)
recently hdmi use with 4k reso
if only you want buy 1.4ver new cable

to be safe is dvi to dp

Your monitor is meant to work at 2560x1440. You're not forcing it in any way.

Don't bother. You will only get the resolution without any workarounds with DP or DVI-D.

Yah agree with bro Phelan. Don't quite understand why you wanna try another cable when you've already found the solution?
