- Is there an est based markup from the last drawn salary and also the difference in markup between being headhunted and applying for a new position? (i.e. maybe 30% of your last drawn for HH position, while 15% for applied position?)

General rule of thumb is, if you go thru a HH, there is a higher chance of getting a higher salary (but actual amount differs, can be anywhere from 5% onwards), but more importantly, there is a higher chance of getting an offer in the first place.

- What are the chances of getting a 50-100% increment? Let's say u are seriously underpaid at your current job, and the market rate for your current scope is maybe 70% more then your current drawn, is it ok to put a 100% markup at your expected salary?

Highly unlikely, unless you permanently relocate to another country.

Because unless you work for a really bad company, your salary will normalize if you perform well. (due to promotions and pay increments due to good performance) Typically a person's salary is a good indicator of whether he is a good candidate or not.

- How are allowances/ commission/ incentive treated? will they be taken into consideration as part of your main package? (As some company only look at basic and don't account for allowances..etc)

A company typically has 2 budgets. 1 is a recruitment budget (to pay to recruitment agencies) and 1 is a headcount budget. Just because you apply directly does not mean you will get a higher salary (even though the company does not pay any fees to the recruitment agency)

They also take into account internal equity. (Eg: A person with 4 years in his company is paid 5k, and your salary is 4k with 4 years experience, therefore your offer will not be a great lot higher than 5k)

- How is oversea assignment measures? and any min. duration, for it to be taken into consideration.

Typically more than 2 years to be really considered

- Also will your current expat package be taken into consideration? Or will they only see your based excluding your expat package/allowances..etc.

No expat package will not be considered, unless you are a citizen from another country coming to work in Singapore.

I've been to 2 rounds of interview.
1st round was with HR + immediate supervisor
2nd round was with Head

Do HR + immediate supervisor convey their decisions and whatever u said in the interview to the Head? I got repeated qns from the Head and wonder isn't it better to merge both rounds together.

I've done the personality profile test. Does this test offer u higher chance if your profile matches their overall department profile too?

1) No because people interpret things differently. They also see things differently. Eg: The manager might see whether you can work with his dept, whereas the head might see whether you might be able to work with others in his company.

Personality test is subjective, because it will also depend on what kind of personalities they currently have in their company.

What's the best answer to the question "why do u want to leave ur current job?"

I say current place unstable environment, retrenchment happens very often, they kpkb say it happens everywhere, and I'm leaving because of push factors and not pull factors. I say cos I in same place many years and looking for new challenge, they ask me how long can this search for challenge be sustained.

When I eager for the job, they say I desperate to leave. When I seemed less eager, they say I didn't want the job badly enough. Fml la.

Sent from my toilet using GAGT

Often in a job, there are 2 factors. 1 is push factor and 1 is pull factor.

Push factor = things you don't like about your currently company
Pull factor = things you like about the company you are interviewing with.

If you have too strong push or pull factor (or only push or pull factors but not the other), most of the time you will not be hired.

Often a candidate must have a mix of both, to get hired (and both must be strong and compelling enough)

If your company is unstable, retrenchments a lot, then it is a good example of a good push factor, and can elaborate it, but you must also have some pull factors (other than $$$)

Hi,

I would like to ask for your humble advice,on how do I actually go about in future job interviews, filling up that portion of have you ever been dismissed before ?

I know that honesty is the best policy but won't my chances in the job interview be affected?

And if i do go about this white lie, would the HR be able to find out about it ? or how would they go about to screen a potential employee?

If I were to be honest, how do you suggest I respond to questions on why I was dismissed?

1) Depends on the seniority of the role you are applying for
2) Depends on the industry you are applying for
3) Depends on how many years of experience you have

1) If you apply for a senior manager role, they might engage a background check company to check on your background.

2) If you apply for govt job or banking job, they will definitely engage a background check company to check

3) If your incident happened 10 years ago, and you have changed 3 jobs since then, then it is not so serious compared to it happening 2 years ago.

Do note that you cannot lie to the background check company, they will literally call up everyone on your resume (your ex companies, your universities, polytechnics, etc) to see that you are not lying.

Thanks for the advice. It was my first job after graduating from university. It usually takes 6 months for confirmation, however,I was given the termination letter on the 11 month, after they extended my training period.

Hence,I was still not a confirmed full timer.I was given a month's wage in advance though.
So I have applied for a number of jobs, and so far have lied about being dismissed if it was asked in the application form.

What is the reason for asking if one has been dismissed before ? It just puts the candidate on an unfair pedestal.

I am applying for an executive role.Usually when a background check is done. What are the questions they will ask the former company, and what are the information the previous company can give to them ?

If you have already left the previous company, the HR will do the background check, and it will entail them either

1) Calling your past supervisor (of which you have provided the person's contact)
2) Calling the HR dept directly. Do note that due to confidentiality, the HR is only able to say when you joined, when you left, and reason for leaving (Resigned, fired, retrenched, etc), and last drawn salary, nothing else.

A standard reference check entails questions, usually to do with your work performance.

Since your experience is not substantial, it is best not to lie about it, but you must also be truthful to yourself on the actual reason why you got fired,

because even if the company hires you, but 6 months later found out that you got fired (and you lied), the company has a right to terminate your employment with them, even if you have passed your probation. (It has happened before in some companies, where people lied that they were bankrupt, they had a criminal record, etc)

Hi head hunter,

firstly, thank you for answering my queries.

I have went for an interview with a US company and I was the first to be interviewed (according to the hiring manager). She told me she would need 2-3 weeks to interview other candidates. I would like to ask:

1) does US companies usually that very long for hiring process? I have friends with such experience.
2) This is the 3rd week already and have not received calls from recruitment agency. I have informed the agency to inform me even if im not selected. Since the agency has yet to call me, any advice if i could increase my chances by now? My gut feel is i did quite well during my interview and had positive comments from hiring manager.

Thank you for your help!

1) Its not just with US companies, but all companies do this. Unless the person they first meet is so good, that they offer on the spot.

2) You can call the agency? Btw "doing well" is subjective. Because there might be another person whom they interviewed after who is more experienced or have done better.

I got a question, Got a coy offered me a position, these are the info given to me:

14 days annual leave
14 days medical leave

OT can be quite frequent due to job nature.
Taxi and meal claims after 10pm only
No overtime pay and no timeoff allowed.
Saturday half day.

Any other important questions i should be asking them apart from AWS and bonus?

Hi,

Am looking for recruiter position here as I just recently for my diploma in Human Resource. May I know whether which recruitment agency is good to work for? Like maybe: Hudson/ Kelly Services/ PrimeStaff/ RecruitPlus/ RGF Executive? Any comments or review about any agencies I'd listed?

Or may worst to worst I would like to know about Recruit Express Tampines branch, like how is the office/ environment/ people like?

Hi, if a company is looking for fresh grad engineers, what are the avenues to locate them and get them interested? (Other than the traditional posting on job portals)
