FTP USB DDNS issue

Hi Guys,

Please help I have been stuck with this for 3 days now. My DDNS access to ftp USB works only if #Allow anonymous login# option is enabled. Once I swich it back off I am not able to log in either through browser or any FTP clients. Non of the passwords work.

Firewall is off I have tried resetting the router pretty much everything.
Thanks,
K

Why u no read what u quoted....... :D

My level is not on par on your level. I just want to get done my 5GHz issues.

Instructions in Asus website have to be clear. If I reset, do I lose my data? I do not want to spend my whole night troubleshooting with no internet access.

Dear dolasutra,

It's very clear..

Do you know what is the meaning of reset and reboot?

reset - http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/reset

hard reset - A hard reset, also known as a factory reset or master reset, is the restoration of a device to the state it was in when it left the factory. All settings, applications and data added by the user are removed.

Reset or hard reset will clear all your data and back to factory default setting.

[Important] Because added the patch for 5GHz, please press and hold the reset button more
then 5 seconds to reset the router after firmware updated to avoid compatibility issues.

Best regard,
JK

Ok. I did a firmware upgrade. Then I pressed the reset button on the back of router.

Now, the Power and Internet light is blinking for about 10 minutes. Does it take that long?

Guys has anyone experienced a similar issue ?

OK THIS IS WEIRD!!! I GOT USB DDNS FTP WORKING AFTER CLEARING AND REFRESHING System Log/General Log!

It is confirmed! Each time I have any information in System Log/General Log! I can not log in to DDNS FTP server remotely using admin password. Once I clear it it is all back working. Guys anyone??

Ok. Resolved.

Hahaha.. I am really not that technical. Downloaded the manual and realised that I am in rescue mode. Connect my laptop to router via cable. Tether and download the asus firmware restore utility. Uploaded the new firmware. Then load back the old config file. Tested my mio tv and voice. Good.

the purpose of doing a hard reset, which is involving the press of reset button, is to remove the old configuration from the memory while it loads in a fresh copy of the current firmware settings.

if you restore from an old config file, you just wasted your effort because you are essentially reverting back to the state where it was before the reset.

if nothing is going wrong, good for you.

if its gonna be cranky, then its your fault.

I've turned off 5Ghz beamforming again (2.4Ghz still on for now). For sure, iDevices (maybe just AC iDevices?) disconnect in sleep mode with BF on. I think there may have been other "variable thoughput" problems with iDevices too, although in the limited time I had it on I guess that could be caused by some other network/server issue.

I will be updating the new firmware tonight. After updating the firmware, do I need to reset the router? Do I need to back up my config first? I am using MioTV and voice
Yes. You must clear out the nvram completely. Another way that avoids inadvertently entering recovery mode is to press and hold the WPS for about 8 seconds with the router powered down. Then, while still pressing the WPS button, power up the router. Wait until the far left LED starts to blink rapidly or pulsate indicating that the nvram is being wiped clean. Release the WPS button, wait for the router to reboot and then MANUALLY reenter your configuration settings.

Hi JK,

This may be something that I've not been paying attention to since I got the 87u (I usually turn the led indicator off). I now notice that my 5ghz led indicator is not blinking at all. The 2.4ghz one does light up - however I have no device connected to the 2.4ghz band. Thought its weird.

Err… How do you off the LED lights with ASUS' firmware?

a friend re contracting viewquest internet and can get a new AC87 at 299 or AC68 at 249. he is not going to get any router, so can pass it to me if i want to pay for it.

if main important factor is range and signal strength, speed not really important, which one is a better buy?

thanks.

Asus_SG, does using the restore factory settings equivalent to hard reset?

Yes. Hard reset button is normally when you cannot access webui or if you forget the admin password.
If you can access webui, just navigate and use the Restore Factory Default Button in Administration Page

I'll go for AC68 and load John9527 Fork anytime.

I happen have own both routers.
87u have got more range....no doubt about it.

One more factor useful to consider is stability.... and 87u is not exactly a finished product in my own option. Feature for example beamforming is still beta-ish at best. Problem with devices auto dc is rampant with this router. To be far, asus is working proactively to resolve our complaints here. No guarantee how this router will turn out with future firmwares.... am keeping my fingers crossed.
