Hi all, I just came back from Taipei and this is my many times there already, so I am sharing my experience based on eating, shopping and less of that in visiting tourist attractions as i have already visited most of them.

My hotel at Ximending.

This is best area to stay if you are in Taipei. I stayed in Efca wan nian hotel, which is one of the cheaper, and newer hotels in this area, which I enjoyed. You can check their reviews. If you are looking to stay in Ximending, Amba, is also a very good option.

Ecfa is located within a building, which is very accessible in Ximending. From hotel to MRT is only 5 minutes. If you stay in Ximending, there are lots of popular makan areas to choose from.

Here is why I think Ximending makes the best place (for me at least)

Walking distance to:

- Yong He Youtiao and Soy bean milk (5 min from my hotel)
- Coco ichibanya - 5 min
- Ah Zhong Mian Xian - 5 min
- KFC / MAC / Jap restaurants / Eateries - 5 mins
- Shopping haven downstairs your hotel

Good MRT location

- 1 stop to Taipei Main station
- few stops to the wildly popular 阜杭豆漿 Fu Hang Dou Jiang
- Few stops to Zhong Xiao Fu Xing station. There you find the popular 8% ice cream. Hello Kitty cafe, barbie cafe, SOGO. And relatively nearby, you can grab your doze of Chia te pineapple tarts.
- From Zhong Xiao Fu Xing station, you can also take the bus 1062 from exit 1, to go to Jiufen. Which I feel is a must go. I did not take the bus, as there were taxi peddlers asking if you want to take taxi up instead. Each person will pay around 250 - 300 and when 4 person is up, they will start the taxi up. The perks is you save time, 40 mins vs 1.5 hrs of travelling. Bus ticket is less than 100 each pax.

- 1 stop to Taipei main station means, I get the red MRT line. This gives me quick access to Shilin Night Market, Danshui lao jie, Yangmingshan, and Bei Tou if you are looking for hot springs.

Yangmingshan flowers blossom

This trip, I managed to catch the Ying Hua blossom. It is a truly beautiful scene in Yangminshan and for the whole year, there is only 14 days where you can see this flowers. For those interested, the flowers blossom in spring and around CNY period.

EZ5 live band - Ming ge can ting

Live band chinese music. Some are ex-contestants for singing competiton, and their vocals are really good. Quite ex, 600 per pax entry price (edited. not 300NT as i previously put). You get 2 drinks. Compared to singapore not ex, but Taipei liquer price relatively ex. Must go, at least once.

Okay the post is getting long.. for those who want to know more can ask me. I have been to taipei for their New year countdown, during CNY period, Night markets, popular spots, attractions, etc..

EZ5 is a nice mingge chan ting. Its a little ex but they have a total of 3 singing sessions, each around 45 min i think. So its quite worth it..

Do note that it is very packed and you have to queue for your turn to gain entry to the crowded bar..

Taipei can travel alone for first time visitor?

I'm always curious as to when people ask if it's safe, Ok to travel alone, etc.

When you ask this question, I would like to know why you think Taipei is not ok for first time visitor.

taipei is considered a safe country with low crime rate. So there should be no problem travelling alone. Of cos, being in a foreign country you have to practise normal safety precaution such as not staying up too late outside and avoid secluded areas if you are a lady..
