74 degrees under native 4k gaming max load. Solid card. But I bought for CF which is bad. VRM cant be cooled efficiently, else I would have continue to use them to support my 4k rig.

Test results show overwhelming win for 980, at twice the price

yea at TWICE the price, and performance is NOT twice

I would still go with 290x, or hold out for the newer cards like others said.

Aiyah, just get the cheapest GTX970 from Lazada (using $50 discount code) for now. When the next big thing comes, can get the new model and sell away the 970 with minimal wallet pain

Aiya very simple.

the 290X performs at 70% of a GTX980, costs about 50% of a GTX 980 and has a TDP of about 150% of the GTX 980.

If TS is concerned about minimising costs, get the 290X
If the TS is concerned about maximising performance for a fixed budget, get Crossfired 290X
If TS is concerned about heat/energy, or if TS is using a Small form factor machine get the GTX980.

Done! NEXT!

In short, don't get 970!

The 970 isn't that bad if you consider price-performance ratio tho.

My 970 benchmarked higher than my 290 (note, non X) for a start and just trail the 290X by very little

And the 970 SLI, depending on which game and benchmarks you are using, the 970 SLI wins the 295x2 on some, but loses on some, but the win/losses in these scores aren't too much.

In a sense, you are paying less than half the price of a 295x2 but getting the same performance with lesser power draw.
