This is the first major outage I've been hit by in two years -- maybe I'm just lucky eh?

Speed seems to be fine (~30MB/s from international usenet server) but ping to my office is around 60ms (usually 3-4ms). Otherwise seems back to normal.

Bedok Reservoir btw, so not actually sure if that comes under Bedok or Tampines exchange.

Correction.
The forum is taking the surge of load in posting rather well :p

Well, it's still only 1% of the explosion EDMW experiences anytime there's a chance to make fun of a PAP member. =:p

Bedok north seems back up. Local and international sites. Slower then usual, but at least it's up for now.

Nope. Which is why when it does happen, the forum explodes. :s22:

Really? So many promoters trying to downplay the frequency of outages to hide facts from new comers?

Let's list out all the outages encountered over 1 year period, shall we?

The moment I fax over my recontract form, the internet went down.
But for me, I'm still confident and have faith in VQ.
One just need to be patience and understanding. Other ISP no downside? Lets look at the good side n hope they improved further ....

Quick update for you guys. The issue is not on the access network. That is it is not the individual exchanges.

The routers connecting different segments of users was affected by an overload that caused 2 of the routers which are redundant to each other to crash. At this time we are not aware of the cause but most services seem restored.

As always our primary concern is to restore services, as such we will always be slower to respond on the forum.

We will give an update on the cause and we will be taking corrective action to address the problems. But for now we seek your understanding to allow us the time to get everything up and running.

Update: Also if your zhone still has a red light or no connection. Please reboot the device your connection should be restored once you get the IP address.

Well, this kind of incidents do happened in RSP. Even MRT oso breakdown lah....the best thing is whether the RSP r able to rectify the pbms in shortwhile. I will say so far VQ is able to achieve tat.

Major outage like this is not common. If memory serves me well, there was only one other time during the 4+ (or has it been 5 already, I wonders) years I have been on VQ. It has been quite some time ago (>a year, I think).

We will be definetely looking at how to not let this happen again once we find out the cause. Our priority right now is to restore all connections.

If anyone is still having an issue. Please drop an email to noc@viewqwest.com - we will get to each one of you.

Problem seems resolved. Connection in Bedok stable.

Just to add, breakdowns and disruptions are bound to happen, it's how they're handled that makes the difference.

Wondering thou, what happened to the tech support line? Overload? Meltdown? I kept getting a "call failed" error. Or did someone just decide to turn off the switch? 😬
