The problem is there is the problem of the asus router (router mode) being in another router (Zhone router). So there is this problem of the Asus router being inside a private WAN ip. Not sure how to set this up on my Asus router if this is the case as the Asus router do not have a public facing IP address.

The public facing address is on the Zhone router but the Zhone do not have DDNS service.....

Do I have to set the Zhone router as bridge mode in order for my Asus router to use DDNS?

I am on the 2GB plan so if I do bridge mode, I only have 1gb download 500mb upload?

How do I make use of the static ip to do stuff like cloud storage and VPN?
The Zhone router does not have the capabilities to do this.

If you need to setup DDNS with Asus router Zhone need to be in bridge mode
Cuase I too face that problem before
I am on the 1GB plan in bridge mode with Asus RT-AC66U router
Download & Upload are both @ 1Gb

have dropped an email to noc, but I'll ask here anyway also. tried to purchase via an app on my android phone when connected to viewqwest wifi, but always can't get the transaction to be recognised by the vendor. this is what PayPal emailed:

---------------------
Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notifications (IPN). Instant Payment Notifications sent to the following URL(s) are failing:

http://(removed)

If you do not recognize this URL, you may be using a service provider that is using IPN on your behalf. Please contact your service provider with the above information. If this problem continues, IPNs may be disabled for your account.
--------------

is this an issue on viewqwest end?

My port one is purple and expiring in Oct. Wanted to go black and I'll have 2 ISPs for three months. Just wondering if I really need 2 appointments, one afternoon for the fibre guy and another for VQ? Nobody at home during office hours and I don't wish to take 2 half-day leaves. Is this the only way? Last time when purple came I only need to take one afternoon off. Thanks.

That is how it works.

NLT guys will take a look first and if everything is okay, VQ will send their guys down on another day to install their service for you.

However, if NLT guys find that your Port 2 is not okay, then you have to wait for NLT to resolve the Port 2 issue before VQ can install their service for you. It will take some time before Port 2 is ready, like several months...

If you are "lucky", NLT will check remotely for you and will not appear at your house. For me, NLT was supposed to come to my house to check the Port 2 but a few days before the first appointment, I was informed by VQ that NLT did a remote check and found out my Port 2 has "insufficient capacity" issue. In the end, both appointments were cancelled and I waited for Port 2 to be ready (waited for 2 months) before VQ schedule an appointment to install their service for me. So, ultimately, I only ended up with only 1 appointment and that was the VQ installation.

Just my experience, for your information.

Thanks for sharing. So there's a possibility that NLT can remotely check the other port. And that's probably what had happened when I did the purple installation almost 2 years ago.

I could stay put and re-contract with purple when my contract is up, and there's perhaps no need to have installation at all when I upgrade to 1Gbps. But it's customer support is almost non existence, the thought of calling them makes me very tired.

Well...it is a hassle to change ISP with all the "problems" associated with changing ISP.

Since you posted in VQ thread, I suppose you are interested in VQ as your other ISP. Trust me, after using all 3 traffic lights as my ISP over the years (including fiber broadband) and hearing/reading about the multitude of issues with purple, VQ will be heaven/alternate world to you... I guarantee that you will not dread calling up VQ customer service or their technical support. Their customer service and technical support teams are top-notch compared to the other ISPs.

Bonus point to VQ is that they will upgrade your plan to better bandwidth when they offer better bandwidth plans and will phase-out the lower bandwidth plans even when you are still under contract at no extra charges. Many loyal customers of VQ have enjoyed speed boosts over the years while paying the same price as when they initially signed-up for the lower bandwidth plans.

I will not go on and on about VQ. You can research more about all the ISPs and decide for yourself which ISP is best suited for you.

Cheers!

Personally I do share the same sentiment as you guys too! Am trying to hook up my 1Gbps connection early June. My connection with MR has ended long ago. However I do wanna use Port 2 but due to netlink trust cap issue I bo bian had to use Port 1. VQ seems to be proactive and reassuring on this EFTO issue and that promises it can be done on the same day if Nucleus Connect (MR's old infra) willing to release the same day. But on MR's end they told me no promises could be made to be released hours before VQ's planned installation time even if termination to be done days earlier, compromising my end with no internet connection for a few days. This issue involved THREE MR customer service support staffs in total as of today. Alot uncertainities going on and "will get back to you later" replies often. :s22::s11:

Right now I'm working out with just ONE VQ staff, at least it's much easier to keep track on the progress. It's as good as working as a team which makes communication much easier as it involves fewer parties to get the problem solved. :D

Heads up to VQ (esp. the Processing Dept) for the dedication and excellent customer interaction. Really felt the royalty as a customer ;)

Hopefully could get the installation done on 26th and will update further.

P.S. Do I have to unleash the customer's wrath on MR? Really, I understand to them its just a job to them and they are human beings afterall. But if they really took my kindness for granted, then it's really hard for me to be kind for the second time :D

Connection to any China-related sites/apps has been slow recently. Well, at least we can still connect, albeit a bit slower. Can't really put all the blame on VQ...China's "Great Wall" is hard to break into...

If you have another VPN service (other than Freedom VPN), you can try using the China servers (if available). I have another VPN service and I used their China server to connect to China sites/apps. Otherwise, I will also experience some slowness without using other VPN services...

Update: Limitation was on my laptop. When I performed the speed test on my PC, this is what I got:

Note I am using bridge mode, so confirmed no 500mbps limit on uplink here!

Has anyone from VQ confirmed the 500mbps uplink limit on bridge mode? Doesn't appear to be the case for me here, as evidenced above. However, I am still unable to max the downlink to near 1gbps even during late nights since yesterday... bummer.

I am on bridge mode and the upload is capped at 500Mbps. Strange what is yours at 1Gbps???

Was on MR before too. The CS wasn't so bad when they first started but now it's become rubbish with people sprouting up only when it or PC show is near to con people into signing up for 2 years of hell.

Traffic lights CS as usual just read u scripts and promise to call u back when they never.

The only ISP that ever came close to VQ for me was NTT cable. But they only do cable and not fibre. And I was paying g $120 for 100mbps cable! Lol

So in comparison. VQ is REALLY amazing for all the headache and time you save. Their CS is 247 and very knowledgeable.

Their staff is flexible and take your feedback on board to try to make exceptions especially during IT show promos.

Most importantly the speed is amazing. I load FULL HD and 4K videos with no issue and there are 8 people in my household on laptops, desktops, mobiles and tablets. More than 1 torrenting at any time and typically 2 or 3 video streaming on hulu/Netflix and China apps.

My Asus ac68u handles it all without a sweat but it wouldn't be possible without VQ ''s awesome routing as well

Most of the VQ customers u ask will attest to this and I'm. Sure there's no other ISP in SG where as many users are so satisfied.

Just to clarify, their technical support is 24/7
Customer service is based on normal office hours, not 24/7

Do not expect customer service to reply emails or respond to calls when not office hours, ie Public Holidays and weekends...

Point to note as I noticed some people mistaken that customer service is 24/7 and will fly into rage when they never get what they want or unable to contact customer service...

Wanna ask, i sign up VQ on Mar it show, got it activated on Apr 6. As far as i know, it comes with free 3 months VPN. By right, it should be payable after Jul 6. I called in yesterday to terminate and it was successful.

However, i just received email that it will be cancelled by Aug 1. Aug 1 will be 4 months from the date the service was activated. So, question is, am i being forced to pay additional 1 month of VPN?

USB tethering uses your mobile data...unless you have unlimited mobile data, I do not suggest USB tethering.

Since you have RT-AC56S, it makes sense to use USB-AC56 which has smaller footprint than the PCE-AC68. You simply plug-and-play the USB-AC56, rather than having to dismantle your set-up and install the PCE-AC68. Plus, you can carry and use the USB-AC56 for other laptops/PCs. You can't do that for the PCE-AC68...

Just my view.

Cheers!
