A single Radeon R9 390X isn't that impressive as it's just a rehashed R9 290X, but two of the new R9 390X cards in CrossFire represents great performance. With a price of $429 or so per card, you're looking at $850+ for this setup which is why we've included the performance of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti which sells for $649 and above (depending on the brand).

I'm more than impressed with what AMD is capable of here with two Radeon R9 390X cards in CrossFire at 4K, but I think the real excitement is going to be next week when the Radeon R9 Fury X arrives... we'll be running it through its paces, seeing just what HBM brings to the table.

I think a single card situation it is clear that a single r9 390X or a 980 would be good for 1440p. Or if people wanna play fast action games like FPS type can opt for 390x with a 1080p display.

And for those whom wanna go for 1080p but do not play fast action games can opt for a 970.

As for dual GPU options it makes almost no sense to Xfire or SLI as of now unless existing single card holders thinks of an upgrade and have a Xfire/SLI compatible mobo and big wattage PSU of 850w and above, to add on to whatever existing cards they have, like a dual 970 980 290x with 390x (Being 390x as the first card).

Cause it makes no sense to even buy 2 at one go.

Assuming major brands
The price for 390x x 2 is a jaw drop ~ $14XX
The price for 970 x 2 ~ $10XX
The price for 980 x 2 ~ $16XX

2x 390x performance exceeds a single 980ti and a little bit away from titanX by 5%. For that money one could just buy a single Titan X or FuryX without the need to buy big wattage PSU and a Z97 mobo.

2x 970 just managed to on par with a single 980ti. With that money yet again one can just buy a single 980ti or a FuryX

2x 980 is far worse price ratio and is the same scenario as 2x 390x.

>>Rebadge and overclock the 290X a bit until it can barely overclock any more, with higher power consumption
>>Add another 4GB which it won't touch except in 4K scenarios where it already chokes so bad that having extra RAM won't matter
>>Name it 390X and sell it for significantly higher price
>>"It's a winner!"

Really?
