hi experts! after doing a little bit of research i have decided to try wet shaving but i wont do a full switch (yet). I will just get a safety razer (probably merkur 34c) and continue to use my gillette spray foam as i do not want to waste time lathering with a brush.

what do u guys think of this partial switch? shaving is a huge chore to me and from the youtube vids i have seen, it is the lathering that is time consuming :o:o:o

Don't. Lathering takes 10 seconds.

Hmmm How does it take 10 second? I see youtube vids of people loading up the brush on a shaving soap takes around 2 min. Then lathering the entire face and jaw can take another few min. 10 sec sounds like impossible even if using shaving cream and lathered directly to the face.

Do u use a special method? I would like to know :)

a good start. But the fun is in the lathering.:s13:
Go for it, a baby step at a time.

yeah i would guess so! but my growth is all the way from sideburns to cheeks to jaw and chin. so im pretty much shaving the entire region below my eyes. to top that off, it grows back in about a day so i have to shave AT LEAST every alternate day. very troublesome! so would like to minimise or maintain the amount of time i spend shaving :(

Use shaving cream from a tube. Squeeze 2-3cm into a bowl.
Lather with a brisk circling motion. Voila.
I take 10 seconds.

ok if its shaving cream from a tube, i would prefer to face lather instead of using a bowl. will it still take 10 sec?

and im guessing u are probably using a high quality brush and cream that can generate lather in such a short time ya?? :s12:

Razor:
1)EJ DE89
2) E41 head (less aggressive model)
3) gillette ball end tech
4) Rockwell Razor. Still waiting.Still

Brush:
1) Brush off Etsy.Shedder. Now in storage
2) A Rooney Style 3 Size 1 Losing one hair or so every shave.Still losing hair. Not sure what i should do.
3) Vintage Blades Brand Finest Badger. Not shedding any hair so far. I like this alot. It's on par with the Rooney and it doesnt shed when i'm shaving.Minimal face feel difference but a huge price difference.
4) Frank shaving Pur Tech. It's not a shedder but feels less dense than both the VB and Rooney. Passable.Should probably try a better Synthetic.
5) Vie-Long Epsilom.Doesn't need soaking. Soft even when dry. i'm not sure yet if it will be softer than the badger. It doesn't seem to bloom/stronger backbone AND it's very dense. Abit hard to clean after using. Might rebuy another horse. Maybe the brown one.Next year Q1 or Q2.

Bowl:
1)Same etsy supplier. Kind of like Swensen coleslaw bowl but in black.

Soap:

TOBS Peppermint: Rebuying something peppermint based for sure.
Strop Shoppe Peppermint: It was milder than the TOBS peppermint. Added the Rosemary and Peppermint essential oil i have. Not a bad combo.
i coloniali: Find myself drawn to the scent. I can't exactly narrow down the scent (smell like incense) but it calms me down alot. It's nice but not sure if i will rebuy.
QCS Rose Otto: Abit longer to lather but yea now i get the hang of how to lather this and its slick enough.
LPL: I don't mind using this but won't be repurchasing. It protects better than TOBS almond for sure. Not something that i'm looking forward to shaving with. Somehow the scent is growing on me. Leap ahead of the Almonds.

Yet to try: La Toja cream and Veleiro cream

Finished but not rebuying
1) Cella Almond: Sweet smell and protects well but its not the scent that i prefer.
2) TOBS Almond: Suffice to say i'm not into almond.
3)Nivea original shaving cream
4)Supermax cream classic orange

After shave/ Alum etc
1) Omega Alum. Good feedback on bad shaving but painful. Don't think i'm into pain.Have not reused.
2) Thayers cucumber witch hazel. Nice fresh smell. Not much pain in use. Some soap don't even feel like i need to use this. But i do try to use daily if i remember.
3) QCS Vostok Balm. Abit creamy.A little goes a long way but i'm using this at most once or twice a week. Prefer the witch hazel.

Update:
Razor Blade

Might Rebuy
1) Polsilver Super Iridium. It's sharp but smooth so my inner demon decided to add more pressure to see when i will nick myself. Would say i like the smooth glide and the smooth skin.
2)Gillette Silver Blue - I like this ALOT. But still can't beat the Polsilver above.
3)Personna lab blue/Personna med prep - I try the lab blue after i tried the med prep and i remember feeling at that time the med prep was better. Can't describe what about it is better but it feels scarier (sound/feel) shaving with the lab blue. Might not repurchase either of them.
4)Astra Stainless Steel/Astra Platinum - Like SS alot, marginally over the platinum for me. Will narrow down to one of the Astra to rebuy.
5)Viking's Sword Stainless - As above like it as well. Sharp while not bleeding me. Will probably lose to Astra on cost basis.
6) Bolzano - Superinox Inossidabile - It is sharp but i bleed abit.It got bumped up abit as i cant get over the memory of the shave. Will retry. might not rebuy but still better than my initial shave.
Lord Super Chrome. Pretty sure i won't rebuy but its a bit better than the below group.

Use if i have
~Perma-sharp Super - Did i remember this wrongly?
~Croma
~Rapira Stainless Chrome - Marginally better than the Rapira super stainless.
~BIC Chrome Platinum/BIC Astor Stainless - Not much difference for me.

~Vidyut Super max super stainless
~Personna Platinum Chrome
~Personna Super Lab Blue (cartridge type) -strangely felt different to the single pack version.
~Lord Super Stainless / Lord Classic Super Stainless . I can't tell the difference here.

Dont bother - Not into platinum. More into stainless.
~Rapira - Super Stainless
~Personna DE
~ Lord Platinum
~Crystal Stainless Israeli Personna
~Personna Barber DE
~Vidyut Super max platinum
~Gillette 7 O'Clock SS
~Gillette Super Nacet
~Super Max super stainless blue

TryABlade pack.-11 to go! Should be done b4 september!

Rapira - Swedish Super Steel
Voskhod - Telfon Coated
ASCO - Super Stainless (Orange)
ASCO - Super Stainless (Red / Blue) Shark - Super Chrome
Shark - Super Stainless
Racer - Super Stainless
Wilkinson - Sword (German)
Gillette - 7 0'Clock - SharpEdge
Gillette - Rubie Platinum
Gillette - Sputnik

Order of trying as above. Will finish the whole pack before retrying it again in Don't bother >> If i have >> Rebuying stage. Will basically transfer the blade between the different razor in the Don't bother and If i have ranks. To see if they somehow become magical in a different razor. 4 Shave per blade.

Eh. My suggestion is to go to Mustaffa and buy their cheapest cream (godrej?) and use that instead of the shaving foam. Rub it onto your face. It might be more expensive per use + not as slick as lathered cream BUT it would still be better than the shaving foam.

If i were to take just half of the wet shaving experience i would rather use less harsh cream/soap + disposable twin blade over gillette shaving foam + DE razor.

Hi all, what are your top performing soaps/creams? Want to up soap/cream game since I have only used godrej, tabac, nivea etc. I have no particular preference for scent and more concerned about performance and face feel since I'm a face latherer. Ofc the cheaper the better but I doubt can beat value of $2 godrej etc. Will probably order from Connaught once I have consolidated a list.

Hoping to get some recommendations!

Somehow i remembered reading somewhere about adding glycerin to shave soap to increase the slickness. Not sure if we can buy liquid glycerin in singapore though.
Not sure if anyone here tried it before.

How much is godrej at mustafa? Are there other brands? If its not as slick as Gillette spray foam then why would u recommend it?

Not as slick as a lathered cream not gillette. I suppose around 2-4 bucks can get some cream. It's not as expensive as those you see online. Off the top of my head got nivea and supermax. Nivea is better than supermax and i didnt try godrej.

where less than 20? mustafa again?
Brush should be around 10. If you try the cheapest DE razor there also around 10 (my guess, some made in china brand). There got some blades. Can try the Astra blade and the croma.

but again, even if you lathered vs current foam. At most add 1-2 minutes only. No need do until so thick like those Youtube guys. If time is an issue...

Around 2 drops. It adds volume to the lather (thicker). Nothing in the slick department, for me :o (maybe the lather was already slick to begin with - can't make it slicker than slick :s13:)
