wow, quite expensive eh, knowing the cost of a capacitor is rather low.

not sure if its the starter capacitor or the dual capacitor. the guy just say its capacitor problem, on the compressor side. its a system 2 air-con. 1 room runs perfectly. the other room, the fan turns low after 5 minute. cant cool the room.

My usual air con cleaning contact uses this machine which he has constructed himself. The machine uses a high pressure waterjet to spray the aircon. So no chemicals involved.

After he always showed me how dirty the water is. So far no dismantling was done.

He is very knowledgeable in the air con technologies. So far, whenever I ask him some aircon related questions or problems, I am satisfied with his answers. This is in contrast to many aircon service guys, who does not know what they are talking about and tries to smoke through

Only this is that, he seems to be very popular and his scheduled is very packed. Need to make appointment about 1 week in advanced and he don't do weekend jobs.

Do you mean R22 or R410A?
Have not heard of R50 gas for home air-conditioning

It would be advisable to have the gas level measured prior to opting for topping up as it is not always that a gas topup is required when the aircon is not cold. This is unless you are aware of a gas leakage in your aircon system previously and has been always filling gas to maintain the coolness.
Market rate for gas topup varies depending on gas type.

1. Try to used touchlight point inside the fan blower see dirty or not.
2. Would be gas shortage.

How long do u serving before?

If really dirty same the pic, so you might consider for chemical wash only.

Steve Ng Service Review +65 96457233

I got Steve Ng (+65 96457233) to come take a look when my aircon was blowing warm air. He was quite responsive on whatsapp, and although he was late for the appt, he still came later in the evening to attempt to resolve my issue.

Bottomline:

1. I feel that he charges way too much to top up refrigerant ($180 for R410A top-up for a split3 inverter) as I just got a different quote ($80 for full purge).

2. I had to call in another aircon guy to re-calibrate my gas pressure because a few weeks after Steve, my aircon was experiencing power tripping. We narrowed down to over-pressure due to excessive gas in the system.

3. Seems like Steven misdiagnose my problem the first time he came by, which was probably due to a faulty thermistor sensor reading that caused my aircon to underperform.

4. He's friendly, although after this fiasco, his competency in aircon repairs is highly suspect.

I have the same problem like you few months ago. After the fan blower and cooling fins dirt are cleaned, cold air come out again. My problem is dust like the pic kimsim show you.

The photo of his chemical cleaning was done with FCU Control Box not dismantled and cover by using plastic bag.
Is that recommended ? ......as I thot its safer to remove it to prevent water entering the FCU and causing failure to the electronics.
I am not complaining, but anyone engaging Ah Yi can ask him to remove Box....better safe than sorry.

There is depend the design of the brands.

Some very difficult to dismantle and they have warranty for cover for customers in chemical wash only.

That is why go for Starmex model can be dismantle all parts as well.

But the Aircon man should have enough experience to handle it, for them face the Aircon services more than we use Aircon everydays.

This kind of problem can be due to many causes. Best to systematically diagnose it.

My case was due to choked cooling fins. The gaps between the fins have clogged. My aircon guy used his high powered water jet to removed the debris and have solved the problem.

He also fixed another problem plaguing me for many years. One of the condensers sometimes never starts the compressor. So after running, hot air starts to come out. He immediately knows it is due to a faulty timer switch. He changed out the timer and the problem solved liao

Please try with in proper way when disconnected.

1. Make sure you turn off the gas from outdoor condenser, there is a risk, if your area don't have Aircon ledge.

2. Air left inside the copper pipe, once you put back and never plug out in proper way, then would be affect on compressor working condition.

3. If you found the Aircon won't get cold anymore, the issue to be vacuum out gas from compressor and refil all new.

Conclusion : once you get wrong to be waste more money for resolve.

I tried calling Ah Yi today but his earliest schedule is Monday. Therefore contacted Redcon.

Called them at 3pm and they arranged for 5pm. Arrived on time.

They found that there is a hole at the compressor discharge pipe. Welded back and top up gas and quoted $180. Price negotiated to $150.

Is it too expensive for a welding job and topping up gas? Anyway I have no choice, cant bear the heat at night. Overall the guys seems competent and experience. All done in 1 hour.
