Frankly ur shortlisted boards are overkill for u.

For Giagbyte, the Gaming GT is a mere cut-down of Gaming G1, but priced higher than the Gaming 7. The Gaming 7 is more value-for-money coz it has almost the same features as Gaming GT (if u compare it on their website), but is priced about S$100 lower.

For Asus, better to get their ROG Hero which is about S$100 lower unless u really really find yourself utilizing the features that Deluxe offers. If not, then even the Z170-A would be better priced than the Deluxe for the features it offers.

For MSI, u will be buying the XPower Titanium for the silver colour aesthetics or u really wanna go LN2 overclocking. Else the Gaming M7 (or M5) already has more than enough features that u can consume. Differences between M5 and M7 are minimal, price of M5 is cheaper by a bit compared to M7, but both M5 and M7 definitely are much cheaper than the Xpower Titanium.

Thanks for yr advice:

I notice the price different is only by $200 and that's not too much if I'm getting a better machine.

Anyway thanks for yr info, I realise also so of the things and feature I also might not need.

Was thinking of the Asus Z170A or the MSI Krait Gaming Pro for budget wise.

If I choose either of these is going to cost me about $800.

If I choose the premium one like GT and Deluxe is going to cost me about $1k.

But if my budget allows it, which one of the 3 will be the better buy?

lol you dont do overclock and you are getting mobo with so much power phases, chokes and capacitors. Just stick to the H variants and be done with it.

I think as long as they are from the same tier of motherboards, the features should roughly be the same, despite different implementations and different naming by brands to distinguish themselves.

So it boils down to: which motherboard aesthetically pleases u the most, or matches ur rig theme the most? All three have their merits, but also their shortcomings. I can choose a different one from u coz I have my own tastes and preferences when it comes to motherboards. So it really depends on you, when the motherboards being compared are almost similar in terms of specs and features and price.

But just because the difference between a high-end motherboard and a lower-end motherboard is S$200, don't take the S$200 lightly. It may not look like a lot to you when u just compare motherboards, but with S$200 alone u could easily get another 16GB worth of Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4 RAMs ($199), or get a Superflower Leadex Gold 850W PSU ($199), or a Samsung Evo 250GB SSD ($169), or a WD 4TB Green HDD (~$200), or maybe a Corsair Air 540 casing ($185). So whatever cost savings u get u can easily re-invest it into getting better parts for the rest of the PC.

Haha :s13:

Although I find Z170 boards more aesthetically pleasing than the X99 ones. I'd rather spend more to get a Z170 board if I hadn't really needed the extra cores.

But the 2 cores can be really more useful in the future. While the greater availability of PCIe lanes is a great plus for PCIe SSD and many other stuffs.

Yeah, so for aesthetically pleasing boards, we are looking at $1100 range x99 boards + 5820k vs $900 range Z170 boards + 6700k.

Can't compare barebones X99 boards to fanciful Z170 boards. They are not the same, if u noe wad I mean...:s13:

The difference between the i5 6600k and i7 6700k is only $150. I don't wanna buy something then I regret when is only $150 different. Layman thinking. Hahaha. $150 is something I still can afford.

Under wad conditions do u need an overclocked i7 that a locked i7 cant satisfy? R u playing with overclocking? Then a cheap i7-5820k and x99 combo will suffice. For boasting rights? Or do u even know the difference between the models such that u can justify y u even need an i7, let alone an unlocked i7? For futureproofing? Forget it, nothing is future-proofed or future-provable at the rate technology is advancing.

Just something for u to think about while u continue to sip ur coffee. :s13:

To add on, as ddr4 are requirements on both platforms and ddr4 prices falling, there's no reason to deter you from haswell E. Early adopters of Haswell E lost out due to the high costs of ddr4.

Haswell users can still consider getting 4790k as users still can use H/B mobos to overclock their cpu, making it still affordable as a whole. Though I am unsure if firstly, the mobos power designs are able to support consistent 4.5GHz and above (significant OC head room).

Skylake i7-k adopters are either dying to have some niche functions on the mobo that X99 does not offer (I.e. raid m.2 SSD/integrated graphics LOL). Otherwise not much point in getting Skylake, given that you already spent that much, just top up within margin of 200 to get 2 more cores and more pcie lanes on the CPU.

Very true. Thanks so much for yr advice. But I just thought the Gigabytes Gaming 7 z170 motherboard is damm cool and features rich. And I really like that motherboard. If I choose that motherboard and buy an locked cpu then is not worth it right. Unless I choose the i5 6600k. Wanna know what's the difference between the Asus h170 pro vs the gaming 7 model. Beside one can over clock another one cannot. Both have type c usb. Gaming 7 have much better sound board quality. Anything else I miss out?
