Has anyone ever tried this before? I wanna travel to CM via train...

But as train tickets cant be booked online... I can only book when im there

So in event train and bus tickets are sold out, im thinking of just hopping by DM airport, head over to nok air or air asia and just purchase flight tickets on the spot...

Is it doable? Tickets will be cheap or super ex?

I think it depends on when u are traveling and if the flight you want is going to fly off full.

In Changi, I tried to buy a one-way Tiger tix to Bkk after Scoot refused to check me in for being 3 min late!

Tiger's ticket was so expensive that I decided to redeem SQ business class one-way to fly out the next morning.

On average, buying a ticket over-the-counter will be more expensive (because they think you are desperate for the ticket, manpower to sell tickets etc). Why not open the airline app on your phone and make a booking first before rocking up to the counter?

It can be done. Both Nok and Air Asia have sales counters at Don Muang. Not sure about the likely airfare for last minute travel.

http://www.seat61.com/Thailand.htm#How_to_buy_train_tickets,_from_outside_Thailand <- you can try this. I have not.

Buying over the counter at last minute can be expensive. I bought a ticket from DMK to Chiang Mai one way over the counter at THB 3,800 before.

Buying at the counter is definitely going to be expensive
if u buy last min means u no choice ...
the price would keep hit high when each seat is taken :)

Just like booking hotels ...
by default u book at the hotel is rack rate ...
rack rate is by default 30 to 50% more expensive than prebook online rates
tats what i learn in my uni on my travel tourism module lol ...

You might managed to find cheaper rate if u book at hotel ?
so far didnt book at the hotel itself ...
however having said tat, some hotels rates might be +/- 10% the rate show by ota :)

The thing is im not sure if my OTP can be sucessfully sent to my thai number when Im in thailand if i where to purchase my ticket online.

I also have no means of printing out the booking ticket although I could try showing them the email i received...

yea i googled for that but its so expensive to have them ship the ticket to you...

so as I've said, its either I aim for class 2 train... if no tickets i will aim for buses to CM... if no bus then plane as last resort.

You intend to land in BKK and travel by train to CM on the same day?

Anyway, if you book via Nok Air , you can make payment at 7-11 or at KrungThai Bank Counter within 3 hours for flights 1-3 days before departure. ;)

AirAsia also allows payment via 7-11 and a few other places too. Check their website for payment channels. :)

If you book online and pay at 7-11 or other eligible counters, you usually save about THB 50 versus credit card service fee. :s13:

You can just buy first via online at respective airline website. Buying early can get cheaper price. Buying over the counter, you will pay original price.

Btw Bus to CM run regularly, even you buy last minute also can. don't worry about that. The price doesn't vary.
