Don't know how he is with rabbits but he is quite good with cats. We now recommend Dr. Nicholas over at United Vet Clinic.

http://unitedvetclinic.com/

He takes the time to go through a diagnosis and doesn't push you to do anything.

If you are adopting a female rabbit, make sure to neuter it. It will avoid it having uterine (?) cancer. We used to keep a female rabbit and she lived quite a long time until cancer got her. Wife would have neutered her if she had known about the increased cancer risk.

Expensive Le

When we first went, that is what we thought!

But:

A. They are very thorough and careful. (Well, Dr. Nicholas is, don't know about the others.)
B. They throw in the occasional test for free or discount heavily.
C. They can be very accommodating when need be.

Do NOT use them if you need medical boarding. Crazy pricey.

We've been through almost a dozen vets in the past six years. Price is not a measure of quality care. I know of one vet (very pricey too) where they took in one cat for dehydration and a bit of jaundice. Told the owner that she was okay for pick up after 4 days.

It died the moment she walked into the boarding area!

The TS can also go to Acacia Vet Clinic in AMK whose prices are lower and the vet there is good for most procedures but he doesn't have an x-ray on premise I believe. We use him for the more simple procedures.

You're welcome! You learn from our grief. Terrible to have her die right in front of you. :(

Rabbits are nice but best to keep in a pen. They like to chew on things and the one we had did that. It also liked to chase you and bite you on occasion. Called her "Demon".

Otherwise, very nice to have around and the fur is so soft! :)

Wow my blood just starts boiling when I remember my experience with United Vet. I'm not sure about Dr. Nicholas, but word of advice: Unless it's this Dr Nicholas Lee (whom rabbit lover below has experienced), I would avoid United Vet. This experience was the product of their selling tactics..

TLDR: They upsell you stuff, or if you don't buy anything, they have a history of talking for very long until the consultation fee goes up.
Also, they're that vet on stomp that left some needles out for drying behind their unit, at the HDB car park. I believe needles are for single use? Even then, shouldnt they be dried in a sterile place? They shouldn't be depending on media like STOMP to keep them in check

Details:
In 2013/14, my dog got really bad diarrhoea and vomiting after drinking contaminated water at Mount Pleasant (he was there to get tested for eligibility to donate blood). I usually manage doggy's external stuff (grooming, vet visits etc). But at the time, I was overseas, so my partner got abit worried after the issue didn't resolve after 3-4 days. He brought doggy down to United Vet.

After being told that he drank contaminated water, and DESPITE it being clear that our dog was young and not overweight, this junior vet decided to upsellmy worried boyfriend the care fitness test package (or some rubbish like that), and decided to check for pancreatitis and a whole host of illnesses associated with old and overweight dogs. That's like testing a healthy kid with a bad flu for bronchitis, on the first doctor's visit.

What an idiot. Our dog tested extremely well for all the tests (like duh, I feed him very good stuff and keep him fit!!).

And then Dr Ting then decided to try to upsell him Science Diet's Diarrhea diet, despite my bf saying that this diarrhea wasn't a common occurrence.
problem #1: Science Diet is filled with all sorts of rubbish that I wouldn't even feed my cockroaches
problem #2: My dog had a one-off case of diarrhea. Why would he need one big bag of diarrhoea kibbles?
Thank goodness my partner said no.

But they still gave a whole bag full of drugs meant to treat all sorts of things beyond diarrhoea. This was awhile back (2013-early 2014), but I remember them being very strong drugs which did not seem aligned with the situation. Guess what. Doggy recovered one or two days later without the drugs.

The whole vet visit cost like $550 - omg? They totally took advantage of a man who was emotionally unstable because his dog was sick, and sold him tests he didn't need, just to drive sales.
Using the child analogy, that's like testing a child with stomach flu, for liver problems.

Unfortunately, there was no service recovery for us because we had agreed to the tests. Wow, come, I clap for you. United Vet, never again.

---
Post fiasco, I was back in Singapore, and I posted an image of the bill somewhere on Facebook, and got multiple people coming forth to say they had nightmare experiences too - of them raising consultation fees and talking and talking when you decline their drugs or additional tests.

--
The only reason why my bf went to United Vet was because my cat had a bad fall, and because they were open late at night, we rushed there, and the vet was very sympathetic and didn't hardsell. Consultation fees were not too ex too. So he thought it could be cheaper than going back to Mount Pleasant (very bad reviews on Social Media).

But then again, i guess he didn't consider they proposed, and I agreed to shell out hundreds on resuscitation efforts even though my cat had no more heartbeat (BINGO, UNITED VET!! that money covered your rental for the night, didn't it), and then the kitty actually died, so they couldn't actually sell me anything after that. That may be why we didn't experience anything negative then.
---

Dr Pearlyn Ting is now at Animal World Clinic where her description reads:
In her free time, Dr. Ting enjoys baking, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys exploring new coffee places in Singapore with her loved ones.

That's so #cafehoppingsg and #hipster. Give me someone with less fluffy interests please. We need a vet who sees her profession as a calling not just a job. Someone who volunteers outside work. I would be willing to pay for that (I actually do now).

--
I'm sure Dr Nicholas Lee may be good. But if you go with him, please make sure they dont fob you off with junior vets.

For what it's worth, we go to mount pleasant at jln gelenggang..but it's for a dog. You know, they're expensive, but at least I only pay for what I need. And that's cheaper than paying "reasonably" for many things I don't need. All the best in your search for a specialized vet!

Ok...so, let's see:

A. The StOMP story involves another vet clinic, not United:

http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/i...-dry-outside-amk-vet-clinic-its-so-unhygienic

Check the addresses.

B. I don't have any personal experience with a Dr. Ting so I cannot comment on her expertise or lack thereof.

C. The bf in the story needs to man up and not be so emotional.

D. If a cat is dead, why would someone be stupid enough to try to resuscitate it? As an owner, I would have just said, "it's a stray, can you give me a discount on cremation?" :s13:

Dr. Nicholas seems to be a junior vet at United. But, my wife and I are very experienced and, frankly, smart enough to be able to research things on our own. As I said, Dr. Nicholas takes the time to explain to you what is going on and gives us the options. Never experienced any sort of upsell.

As for the Mount Pleasant branch at Jln. Gelenggang, there is a Dr. Steven Goh(?). I call him Dr. Kill because he likes to put animals down. Recommended that in two cases that we know of.

On a bit of a serious note, if your cat decides to take the Rainbow Bridge as you're rushing him/her into the vet's arms and the vet says that it's a goner. Ask if they will waive the consultation fee. Cry if you must! :)

A. See 4th pic in story. The table with syringes...is behind United vet. Unless we accept thAt someone else came out and put the table and syringes there.

B. Dr ting has moved on to Animal World clinic. Hopefully she will mature one day. Till then... no..just no.

C. I'm not sure what you mean by man up. He wasn't in tears...he was just sufficiently worried to take all their advice at face value, without taking the time to research...as most people are prone to doing at the Doctors.
I have an issue with how they took advantage of the situation to upsell. This could've happened to anyone, when it shouldn't be happening at all. I'm disturbed by how more people came forth to share similar stories (overcharging/upselling/useless drugs) when I shared the encounter on Facebook..
It has become commonplace for Doctors to push procedures which may not necessarily improve a patients quality of life, and this has helped create a flourishing healthcare industry (the Pfizer and Allergan merger is worth $300bn). But just because it has changed to become that way, doesn't mean that it is right. This is different from getting a face lift and then incidentally electing to get fillers done elsewhere. We go to the vet for healthcare for a family member, and everyone should be able to TRUST these people to give just the right amount of treatment. How could this vet (dr. Pearlyn ting) in good faith, have recommended a diet high in corn, meal, and corn gluten for a dog? That's like how dogs get overweight and have Low energy.

D. Well yes, i agree that it would be stupid to try to revive a dead animal. But heart not beating doesn't mean dead, that's why there are heart Attack survivors.

Now now let's not drag your Wife into this. I never said anything negative about dr. Nicholas, and if he works for rabbits, then that's great. Thanks for doing the research, I'll KIV for the day I keep rabbits again.

Dr. Goh: I don't use him. And thank you for sharing as well. with what you said.... I'm not going to. Mount pleasant has tons of horror stories gg for them. I only migrated to Dr. Choi after 2 different friends used him with good reviews for the species of animal I keep.

Perhaps TS could also consider that while both are impt, the vet matters most (like I said earlier, if they try to fob you off on someone other than Dr Nicholas, whom ironmac here has researched and recommends, then buyer beware) and then the clinic (syringes being left outside reflect an unhygienic approach towards hygiene )

Happy Diwali, and let's not get emotional over animals ;)

Crying works meh. Haha
No la. I didn't cry. Lol. Maybe I should have. I was too focused on working out the potential vet fees, working out which CC to use, and executing the most efficient solution.

Next time I try.

A. You're right! I laughed out loud when my wife first told me the story because I asked how much can one save by drying needles? Ridiculous. Well, guess we will always make sure that they use a fresh out of the pack one from now on!

B. Again, no experience with her. We stick with particular vets, not clinics.

C. I wouldn't appreciate it if my wife says I am emotionally unstable. hehehe

D. I am not an expert in pet foods so I cannot say anything about Science Diet but just a quick glance at the ingredient and nutrient lists does not raise any red flags straight off the bat.

E. As for their pricing, some people have complained from what I can see on their FB page. But, the prices are on the board and one should always ask beforehand how much a procedure costs.

We always ask for the price and we always ask, what does this do? Will it help in their treatment? If it does not result in an appreciable improvement in the diagnosis and prognosis then we say forget it.

For example, we had an FIP+ cat (or strongly strongly suspected that was what she had). One of the other vets suggested a test that would have strengthened our suspicions but not give us a conclusive answer. We said forget it, we were pretty sure that she had FIP and so the test would not give us any value.

Folks, always feel free to ask on here first if you are unsure.
