SINGAPORE: Starting Tuesday (Dec 1), the monthly National Service (NS) rank allowance for full-time National Servicemen (NSFs) and Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen) will be increased by S$80 across all ranks.

The increase applies to all NSFs and NSmen in the Singapore Armed Forces, Singapore Police Force, and Singapore Civil Defence Force, the Ministry of Defence said in a news release on Monday.

At similar stage of development, a person who is serving NS Full-time should be getting similar pay as someone in the Regular service. I have never heard of any good reason justifying the discrepancy.

Although there is a difference, it is still 2 years of opportunity cost, delaying 2years of entry into higher education, 2 years later of entering job market and the list goes on..

altho i do not fully agree to be paid the same as a regular, as i think we gonna pay for it thru taxes, but it should be of some decent amount. I seriously cant understand how i can get $550/30 * no. of days and get discriminated against internships that pays me 3x more during my uni days

No idea how they compute but i think the $ they pay for meals is ridiculous for ridiculous food (the canteen oso cheaper and nicer pls) They should cut the budget for meals (and demand quality), and give it to us

Hahaha, you should quote him a NSF 3SG/2SG holding PS appointment compare to REG 3SG holding SC appointment.

How would that difference be material? Take an example, an NSF and a regular in OCS together.

One willingly sign on and need to earn a living while the other one is obligated to serve understand the law so that's the difference to begin with?

Lesser of 2 evils.

No increment vs increment

Yeah...To me, really no point. Some things don't go away or gets solved with increment...

Maybe for some who spends money like flowing water, then yes the small increase is a big deal.

So you rather not get increment than getting increment?

For those who want regular pay, you can always sign on and then after 2 years, you purposely cork up so badly that they ask you to leave. :s8:
