Actually I heard that Starhub stop encrypting FTA channels because they need to pay licencing to encrypt the these channels. So why pay to encrypt FTA channels at the encoders and then decrypt at the set-top boxes end. I wonder how much the encryption company earn a year :s13:

514 MHz is shared by a few channels (see post #4) in multiplex (means all using the same frequency.

Since it's a new tv,you may wish to call the seller/local agent for support.

Edit: are you using an old antenna cable? If so, changing to a new one may work - corroded/oxidised connector.

Understand that there is no tv with built-in dvb-c tuner in Singapore. Please share what is the Tv brand and model that has dvb-c built-in. For Samsung they may have setting for cable connection and air however it is also dvb-t2 tuner when using an antenna. Cable setting mean it is cable connection.

my new TV brand and model is philips 55pft6609/98 . the reason why i want to manually tune to channel 8 is because my parent want the HD 8 on number 8, so its easier for them. somehow this tv doesnt have the ability to switch / move channel number.

Never mind, they will get use to it in no time. Alternatively you may wish to create a favourite channel list.

You gave the impression that you were not able to receive Ch8.

Btw, my 32/5109 can swap channels, but I never bother.

If you use cable connection you are actually watching analog tv. It is dvb-t2 using antenna. Honestly this tv do not have built-in dvb-c tuner. Please see the specs:

Hi guys, quick question..

I just moved into Punggol, staying on the 15th floor. If I go buy a digital antenna (like those selling in best denki $45-$65), will I be able to receive HD channels? Mine is a dvb-t2 ready tv.

Yes, I know Punggol only ready in 2016 for digital but it seems there're some here who says they can receive the signal.

If you have any of the antenna mentioned here, you might want to try it out first. My old "rabbit ear" antenna from old CRT TV work surprising well on my USB TV stick.

Since you still need an antenna eventually, you might as well buy one now to enjoy HD broadcast immediately, hopefully (high floor good chance).

If you are kiasu, buy from sellers who offer refund or exchange (eg NTUC Fairprice) for another item of same or higher value within a stated time frame.

Just bought a sony x8500c. I dont subscribe to paytv, never connected the tv/scv point, and dont have antenna as well. Somehow the tv managed to get Channel 5, CNA and stuff. Does that means the tv has some kind of internal antenna of sort?

you mean we're not gonna have digital antennas on the roof? I always thought the analog antennas will be replaced by digital antennas, so we just have to plug our coaxial cable into the tv port. :s13::s13::s13:

1st time I hear this. But there is an explanation...

All metals behave like antenna. Examples, metal door frame, window frame, curtain rail, cloth hanger, wire, cable etc.

Digital tv signal required for reception is extremely low. So the signal picked up by the cables or internal circuitry is probably good enough for your tv tuner.

Edit: Your unit is perhaps directly facing the Bukit Batok transmitting station.

Do you see any antenna on the roof? If not, there is nothing to replace, because if there are, you are likely to receive the digital signal.

Read the detailed explanation here:

I'm at tiongbahru high floor facing the central actually. Signal level is quite low, it shows 11 but pictures is crystal clear. So those buying new tv might want to try without buying antenna first.
