I highly trust HGST aka Hitachi reliability in HDD storage.

If they launched 10TB HDD, they must be really proud of their track record and innovation in always breaking new grounds.

nvr own a HGST hdd before, guess i will get them to replace my Seagate 2TB x 4 in my nas.

any 4TB HGST to recommend for nas usage?

Seagate?! :s22::eek:

Better replace fast. :(

I own a almost 10 year old 250GB Hitachi HDD. Till now rock solid and no bad sectors at all. Using as spare HDD for my PC. :)

Better not risk it. replace it before they fail.

4 years is reaching its EOL.

I running Raid 5. Still got some margin of error, unless 2 of the 4 fails together.
Anyway, I am planning to upgrade to bigger capacity. Will look at HGST.

When they fail, they will fail together without warning, especially if you bought them together as a batch.

Now 4TB very cheap. Less than 200.

They will all fail without warning, this being a Seagate. Also, rebuild times for even just 1TBx4 array in RAID 5 can be so startlingly long that another drive can fail before it's done rebuilding.
Degraded array write speeds are awful ;)

Never take your chances.

HGST of course. Toshiba also uses HGST tech so that's an alternative if you don't mind shorter warranty (1 year ... not exactly much unless you buy enterprise drives?)

mine takes 2-4hrs to rebuild a 5x3TB array
