Dont give up.

I am 28 this year, wasted 2 years after graduating in finance job. Decide to do career change, joining big 4 as a1 later this year. There may be age limit, you will be one of the oldest a1's but 28 is still ok.

To me, i feel that knowing the basics of other areas is an individual vision before moving forward to specialize in one :(

I understand your point, in tax now, 27 this year, may want to switch to something else this year, but have to forego paycut and also hard to find/not sure what to explore..

Hello all, can I ask how hard is it to secure an internship in the Big 4? Usually, what are they looking for GPA-wise, and are CCAs and outside activities paramount to helping one secure the internship?

And if any of you have experience interning in a Big 4, may I ask if you can share it here or via PM?

What school are you from?

Hi guys here. I am currently still in NS and going to ORD in Sept this year. I plan to rest for a month after I ORD and start work in October. I only holds a Diploma in IT and is working very hard right now while in NS for ACCA. I passed F1 currently and high chance i will be able to pass till at least F3 before I ORD.

Which means to say that i will be able to get Diploma In Business and Accountancy from ACCA and I plan to find a job in that.

So question is, with the diploma from ACCA, is it true i can only join SME for the start since that diploma doesn't have much power?

I wish to specialise in Audit in the future and what can I do to maximize my potential while working and studying for ACCA at the same time? I am not going to study a degree and hopefully i will be able to get a degree cert from OBU that is in partnership with ACCA. Need alot of advices thank you.

not really. small accounting firms will also consider diploma holders but do note that you will not be tasked to do very high level stuffs but the purpose is geared towards gaining experience and exposure.

question is, are you willing to draw below $2k and work as long hours as those degree graduates in the same firm? and not so much to "maximise" your potential but rather have relevant experience if you were to specialise in audit in future.

an audit firm will definitely favor hiring someone who has working experience in an accounting firm than someone who's from SME AR / AP.

but why will you want to do OBU? for interest? for sake of an academic (degree) qualification? it is not as recognised as compared to SIM degrees and you will definitely be in a better position upon completion of your ACCA L3 (P papers) than having an OBU degree with ACCA L2 only. Unless you intend to complete L3 + OBU and you got time and money, feel free to do so.

I definitely don't mind suffering now since I'm just 22 this year and yes i intend to complete the whole of ACCA with the top up of OBU although i know that the degree cert doesn't value as much as other degree cert. During my free time, i tried searching for job in those hiring websites and find that almost all of them actually wants people with experience. So I'm just wondering how is there any way i can secure a position in a small accounting firm without any experience when I just ORD? Thanks for your reply!

With a Diploma In Business and Accountancy from ACCA, you are not the same level as Polytechnic Diploma & will be consider as a Private Diploma which worth around ITE salary range. Are you willing to do low end position with low pay?

you can try ISCA website for a list of ATOs, probably the smaller firms will welcome you.
