Does anyone if NTU gives out scholarship based on merits of students across the entire sch, or is it across individual faculty?? Eg. I have rp of 86.25, if i apply for biz then i probably wont get it as i'll probably not the top few percentile. But if i applied of hist, i have a higher chance of getting the scholarship since there's a higher chance of me ending up in the top few percentile? Is this true??

Are you an incoming freshmen or a current undergraduate?

It depends on which scholarship you are applying for.

http://admissions.ntu.edu.sg/UndergraduateAdmissions/Pages/ListofScholarships.aspx

Some are opened to the entire NTU, and hence you compete with everyone for it. While there are also some scholarships restricted to students within certain courses, which may be slightly easier to get.

Regardless, you generally still need outstanding academic merit and non-academic achievements to bolster your chances.

Just some info for those who are applying this year, since last year, the poly intake has been reduced in NUS/NTU. The reason that I was told is that they are trying to get more poly grads to go to SIT/SUTD, which was set up for them in the first place.

Good luck to those who are applying. May the force be with you.

I noticed it when I helped out with some prep workshop for the poly students in NUS. So I asked the lecturer, who was conducting the workshop, and he told me about it.

Hi, what's my chances of entering NUS Comp Sci?

Really sad that this year comp sci igp went up from 3.65 to 3.74

L1R4: 20
GPA: 3.7/4
School: Temasek Polytechnic
Course: Diploma in Information Technology
Maths: No Amaths

I have a good record of CCA and have taken up multiple positions in different clubs. Got second place in a national competition before. Do I stand a chance for DA even if direct admission didn't go through?

I have a more definite answer.

You stand 0% chance under regular admission, as Additional Mathematics is a STRICT PRE-REQUISITE to NUS Computer Science.

HOWEVER, you may still apply and be considered under Discretionary Admission.

Please refer to this link for more information:
http://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/apply/local/poly/tp/temasek.html

What chocolatecat said is true. If no A Math, u might be interviewed. That again does not guarantee anything. chance is very slim. And even if you do get com sci. your life in NUS CS will be hell due to your weak math foundation. NUS CS is not all about coding... math is pretty much 50% of the whole course.

So they reduced the quota for poly students and gave it to JC students? Or given to foreigners? :(

Foreigners quota will stay at 16% as directed by MOE. If there are changes they will announce. Probably would go to JC lor. Although for the past admissions, I think poly intake really huge for Ntu engine.

They will probably see which course has imbalance and work from there. Courses like medicine will probably take in more poly kids since they did announce they would last year. And the numbers too small to reduce anyways.

I think NUS comp sci might take in more JC. As of now the igp for comp sci is AAA/A and 3.74 which is quite lopsided. They will probably increase the quota for JC to make it easier.

We will be moving away from a JC & Poly Quota-based system over the next few years.

The number of individuals who would be admitted from each of these pathways should be determined by merit and the admissions criteria of the institutions, and not by any set quota of JC to polytechnic students.
This will allow the institutions to develop and apply broader admission frameworks to take into account the applicant‟s suitability, ability and talent.
http://www.moe.gov.sg/media/press/files/2012/08/cuep-report-greater-diversity-more-opportunities.pdf

This will effectively resolve the lop-sided issue you pointed out.

I see. Since they are doing so to get more students into SIT and SUTD, that means it only affects the intake for IT and Engineering courses, and not for business courses?
