Hello.

Poland - Zakopane. A nice website i found about the Tatra Mountains. You can take a day trip by bus from Krakow to Zakopane. or find accommodation in Zakopane so you dont have to rush for the bus back. It was really really tough on my legs, I couldn't climb stairs the next day. :s13: but the view was well worth it.

Do check out how's the weather in May though, I went in August and it was HOT.

Scotland - Fort William. Ben Nevis It's the highest mountain in the UK. I did not climb it, but a friend who did said the views were awesome. I went past it a few times though. If i recall correctly there's a cable car system so if you're tired, you can use it to get down. =:p
I went further up north to the isle of skye. Great for nature lovers, very easy hiking compared to the above 2.

if u are only going amsterdam, then probably 2-3 days is enough. however, u can explore other parts of holland too.
here is my trip report on holland, belgium and luxemborg. went there during mid-end april to see tulip in Keukenhof.

for hiking, i think germany is a great place. there are many scenic places to hike in black forest and bavaria. i did a bit of hiking germany during winter. it is probably just as great or even better to hike in spring:

yes, Keukenhof can be a day trip from amsterdam.
for windmill, i visited 2 different places: Zaanse Schans and Kinderdijk.

Zaanse Schans can be a day trip from amsterdam. i took a day tour package to visit it. Kinderdijk is in southern holland, i took a day trip from Rotterdam. might be too far from amsterdam for a day trip.

if u have the time, i suggest visiting Kinderdijk instead of Zaanse Schans. Kinderdijk is a Unesco heritage site and the windmills are authetic. Zaanse Schans is more touristy, and the windmills are rebuilt or relocated from elsewhere iirc

Bro..

So now i can plan like

Day 1 - Keukenhof

Day 2- Kinderdijk

Day 3 city

How to get around to the first two places easily? by train ? hopefully transport is as easy as in Japan..

How did u arrange the day trip ?
Thanks

u will need to take bus for these places.
keukenhof is about 30min by bus from Leiden station. there shld be buses from Amsterdam as well.
Kinderdijk is about 30min by bus from Rotterdam-Lombardijen station. Rotterdam-Lombardijen is a few stations from Rotterdam-Central station and Rotterdam is less than 1hr from Amsterdam.

for the day tour, i signed up for the package when i was there. lots of agency along the streets in amsterdam, so just check around.

Honestly I was underwhelmed by Keukenhof. It was basically a carefully manicured garden with many patches of flowers. My female friend seemed to enjoy it though. I was more impressed with the tulip fields just outside it (free!) which you can walk to.

You can try taking the ferry from Rotterdam to Kinderdijk. You pay with their OV-chipkaart. It can be a little confusing as you need to make a transfer, but its a different experience. I even brought my bicycle with me on it.

Kinderdijk, Veerdam ‹ Waterbus

I don't think you can spend a whole day at each place, but you can spend some time at Leiden for Keukenhof and Rotterdam for Kinderdijk. There is a saturday market at Leiden.

i agree with rife.. Keukenhof is nice, but it is the tulip fields around the area that is really breathtaking. so do cater time to explore the area after visiting Keukenhof. u can rent a bicycle to cycle to those fields, or just take a walk.
